Hello Szeged, city of sun and water

Hello everyone. After traveling through the province of Vojvodina in the north of Serbia, which I wrote about in my previous posts, my husband and I continued to our final destination, which was Szeged, a city in Hungary just 20 km from the Serbian-Hungarian border.

We arrived around noon and checked into the Novotel hotel, which had a fantastic view from the terrace. I always find it inspiring to look at the streets of another city.

IMG_20250215_164904.jpg

Our room was nice and clean and cost only 60 euros per night for the two of us in total.

Novotel is a nice 4-star hotel with very friendly staff.

IMG_20250216_101258.jpg

We were hungry when we arrived, so we asked the receptionist to recommend a restaurant where we can eat traditional Hungarian food. The first recommendation was the Roosevelt restaurant and we headed there right away. The restaurant is located very close to the hotel and can be reached by walking along the banks of the Tisa river.

Actually, in Hungarian, this restaurant has a different name, but the locals also call it Roosevelt's.

IMG_20250216_100322.jpg

IMG_20250216_100441.jpg

The name is less important. What is important is that you can eat real traditional Hungarian food here.

IMG_20250215_145105.jpg

I had goulash soup which was very spicy but pleasantly spicy and veal stew.

IMG_20250215_141302.jpg

IMG_20250215_141258.jpg

For dessert, we ate Hungarian "gundel" pancakes filled with walnuts and covered with dark chocolate. It was very delicious.

IMG_20250215_144034.jpg

The first floor of the restaurant was very crowded, so we went down to the basement part, which looked like an antiquities museum.

IMG_20250215_134546.jpg

In addition to the fact that you can eat good food here, you can also see a lot of Hungarian antiques and unique items.

Very close to the hotel is the Thermal baths Anna, an authentic Turkish bath, which we did not go to this time because we decided on another one. But next time we will definitely visit this one too.

In addition to the fact that you can bathe in this thermal water, you can also pour medicinal water for drinking, which has a beneficial effect on many organs, especially the digestive.

After lunch, we went for a walk and tour of the city, which I will write about in the next posts.

Hey Jelena, your trip sounds amazing! But let’s talk about that goulash—“pleasantly spicy” or “set-my-mouth-on-fire” spicy? 😆 And those Gundel pancakes? If I ever visit, I might just skip sightseeing and camp out at Roosevelt’s! 🤣

Hahah that's hard to explain.🤣 It's very spicy, but you feel comfortable while eating, you don't burn.🤣 Gundel pancakes are perfect!

What a beautiful city and what wonderful views!! I also like the color of the pictures very much. The architecture of some places in this restaurant is similar to restaurants in my country.

I'm completely in love with its beauty—every scene is so captivating and stunning. It's so much enjoyment to view all the colorful landscape, quaint streets, and fantastical architecture that make the location so unique. There's something really unique about the way the city blends its culture, mood, and landscape, which makes it so enjoyable to discover. I cannot help but be stunned at how each nook of it has something to say. It's truly a place that gets to the heart!

Stepping inside this restaurant makes you feel like you are in another era. It does not only offer scrumptious traditional dishes but also showcases antiques and unique artifacts. It is akin to a section of a museum. Some facade of the city structures look like the ones I saw in movies. One should not miss visiting this country when having a European tour.
