Back to the 16th century - Krusedol monastery, Serbia
Hello everyone, I hope you are doing great today. Yesterday I traveled with my family. Every weekend I like to visit the nearby places and explore new spots or return to the ones I've already visited and where I'm happy to be again. One of those places that I am happy to return to is the Krusedol Monastery, located on Fruska gora, in the province of Vojvodina, in the north of Serbia.
From the moment you enter the spacious courtyard of this monastery, you will feel incredible silence and peace.
That is one of the reasons I keep coming back again and again. I am fascinated by the moment when I walk through the gate and suddenly everything goes silent.
A path surrounded by greenery leads through the courtyard. It is suitable for children because you can let them run around carefree.
The monastery is surrounded on all sides by the monastery quarters where the monks live.
Let's take a look inside and enter the monastery.
The courtyard within the monastery is very neat and beautifully decorated with flowers.
In front of the monastery quarters, you can see dried peppers and garlic hanging on strings.
Krusedol is an Orthodox monastery, built in the 16th century by the Serbian despot Djordje Brankovic. The monastery is also a sanctuary where the remains of Serbian greats - despots, patriarchs and a king lie.
This monastery is a very respected historical building in Serbia. In addition to the relics of Djordje Brankovic and other greats, numerous other valuable witnesses of history such as museum collections and frescoes are preserved in it.
The church within the monastery was built in the late Byzantine style and has stood the test of time. During the war history, the church suffered some damages, but it was renovated and preserved.
The bell tower was built later, in the 18th century. When we sat down to rest in front of the bell tower, an unusual situation happened to us. The priest approached my daughter and said that he is giving her a blessing that when she grows up she will do a job that she will love. It's a nice wish because most of our lives are spent at work, so it's a great happiness to do what you love.
Then we entered the church.
The interior walls of the church are painted with frescoes that are truly masterpieces of painting.
I didn't feel comfortable taking more photos inside because the uniqueness of this place cannot be conveyed by photos. It has to be experienced.
When we left the courtyard of the monastery quarters, we saw a narrow passage leading to the spring. We have never been there before, although we have been to the monastery several times.
We followed the narrow path.
Then we came to the stairs that led to the spring.
We went down the stairs and washed our faces with water that is said to be holy and beneficial.
I always feel good after visiting historical places, so after visiting Krusedol Monastery, we continued our exploration of the area and got to know some places for the first time, which I will write about in my next posts.
Thank you very much for reading.
The images and writing are original and mine.
Greetings!
Jelena

That's a beautiful church! We also have plenty of churches from the 16th century in Romania but they can't be compared with this one! And most of them are left in ruins anyway...
This is one of the most beautiful churches in Serbia that I have visited. I always bring back good impressions from that place. Thanks so much for stopping by. 🤗
the place is so very attractive🤍
