A detour to El Altar waterfall
visiting the municipality of Simon Planas

Edit in Canva & Photoshop
Last weekend, as I was on my way to a press conference about the carnival celebrations taking place in the town of La Miel, the mayor's communications director and the local tourism director decided to offer us a short guided tour of one of the places that residents of nearby towns and states often visit.
The bus headed to El Altar Waterfall so we could spend some time there in contact with nature and enjoying the atmosphere. Fortunately, there were very few people there that day. There was a small group of people who were already packing up to leave, probably because they had spent the whole day there since early in the morning.

It is located in the city of Sarare, in the state of Lara, Venezuela. It is a river where people like to go with their families or groups of friends to spend the day swimming and socializing. There was quite a lot of security. A group of national guards were there to prevent criminals from committing their misdeeds. I saw this as a positive thing. There was also an area where visitors could buy food, soft drinks, water, sweets, etc. Although I'm sure many people bring their own food to save money.
It had been too many years since I had last been back to this place. Getting there reminded me of my high school days, because that was when we always organized trips to a river in that area. This isn't the only one; there's also another river and tourist area called Las Mayitas, which was the most popular and where we used to go when we were students. Back then, I liked to party and drink alcohol like there was no tomorrow. These are stages that most of us go through.

I think it was good for me to get away from my routine and spending so much time at home these last few weeks. They say that contact with nature is healthy, and maybe there's some truth to that. The best part is that the trip was completely free, since we were there for work, attending a press conference, and they invited us on this excursion.
The place is very beautiful. None of us who went knew we were going on this excursion, so we didn't bring our swimsuits, and I couldn't get into the river and reach the area where the waterfalls are, so I just took pictures from where the river begins. I wanted to get in and go to the end to take better pictures, but I couldn't.
This place is an hour's drive from the city of Barquisimeto, so anyone with a vehicle can go there and back quickly. There are also bus lines that leave from the Barquisimeto terminal and go to this town, and of course, there are inns and places to stay for those who want to spend the weekend there. A large crowd is expected during these Carnival days.
This is my first time posting in this community, I hope I have complied with all the rules.

What an impressive place!!! I had never seen a river with water that colour, between green and blue, so transparent and creating such beauty in its surroundings. The vegetation is lush, with many shades of green. I imagine hearing that beautiful waterfall and I am transported to the place. Paradise-like and beautiful, ideal for a picnic and spending a good time exploring and walking around. I would explore it completely.

The waterfall is so clean, this place is really nice to visit if you are going on an outing or if you are a nature lover.🤩
Yes, everything was very well preserved, clean, and quite closely monitored by the security forces. Everything was in order for visitors.
