1962 VW Beetle Project --- Part 8
Fresh wet paint
The paint store couldn't come up with a code for the original 1962 Bruswick blue but found "Bahama Blue" and it looks amazing!
In some light it looks almost green and in direct sun it is a very pale baby blue!
Two years in the making and she looks beautiful!
I got all the parts below in a kit and all of them put on!
Brand new running boards to go on!
One of the first things I did was got all the old chrome cleaned up as good as I could and put back on.
Windshield Rubber and Chrom trim installed.
Used a small amount of silicone and a piece of wire to get the windshield installed.
Spedometer installed! (IT WORKS BY THE WAY)
Glovebox door and gas gauge installed.
First thing that broke trying to put it back together was this mount for the drivers door mirror. Luckily I had ordered the passenger mirror and it came with a new one for it so I was able to use the old one from the passenger side.
Installed the decklid only to figure out that the hinge was bent.
Bent pretty bad, I straightened it as far as I could.
The deck lid mount was also pretty bent. The decklid has some damage (you can only see on the inside) so i'm thinking this happened several decades ago and was never addressed.
Installed the horn button but I still can't figure out why it doesn't want to work.
New lenses for the front turn signals and one horn grill installed. (The other one broke)
After bending the bracket and hinge, the decklid fits alot better but still not perfect.
Decklid handle installed (correctly after several failed attempts)
I've lost one of these chome pieces for the vent windows.......
I'll be making another post with more updates soon, I've gotten alot done in 3 weeks but theres still so much to do. Probably lots of hours trying to figure out wiring, I do have instructions but they arent making much sense in this non mechanic brain of mine. Wish me luck!
Really an awesome project! Such a clean project when it's ready.
Thanks man!
That is going to be sick!
Shes coming along for sure!
🎉🎉🥳 Congratulations 🥳🎊🎊

keep up the good work
looks like a lot of work , my father used to have a black version of that VW back in 1970 - 1972 .
I remember that in the 70's people use to rebuild them with a Porsche engine in the back , and a couple of years ago i found even someone that had rebuild it with tesla motors inside .
