De Paseo/ Estudio a una muestra fotográfica

Cuando comencé en este mundo de la fotografía, algo que me quedó muy claro es que debía estudiar. Estudiar muchísimo.

No solo porque tuviera una carencia de conocimientos teóricos y prácticos, a pesar de haber tomado algún curso, sino además porque había otra cuestión que pudiera parecer menos importante que saber sobre pasos de luz, ISO o tipos de planos. Estaba el hecho, para nada simple, de ver, revisar, observar un montón de fotografías y pinturas.

"Uy, pensé que me dirías que tenías que hacerte una maratón completa" - puede que hayas pensado (o algo similar jajaj). Pero es que, entrenar la vista también es parte del aprendizaje y una GRAN parte.

Observar, que no es lo mismo que mirar, pues la última está relacionada con el hecho de percibir nuestro entorno para no caer en un hueco o tropezar con un poste, pero la primera es enfocarte en el detalle, es un proceso que requiere mayor concentración y un estado más activo de nuestra conciencia, más parecido a cuando vas a intentar cruzar una calzada o avenida repleta de carros circulando.

A partir de que comencé en este mundo, ando por la vida buscando fotos 😅. Cuando camino por las calles, cuando veo alguna escena urbana o una hoja de un árbol en determinada posición.

De esta forma también comencé a consumir muchísimas imágenes por Internet. Una de las plataformas que uso es: Google Arts & Culture. Dado que una parte de mi trabajo está relacionada con el retrato, me gusta mucho mirar la obra de Rembrandt, Johannes Vermeer y Auguste Rodin, entre otros.

Pero también hay otra parte de la fotografía que me gusta, y creo que en esto, tanto como en la música, soy algo (MUY) ecléctica y es ahí donde entran varios artistas más como: Cartier-Bresson, Steve McCurry, Dorothea Lange, Chema Madoz, Brooke Shaden, Erik Johansson, en fin... una gama bastante amplia. (Si te gusta la fotografía, te sugiero que investigues cada nombre).

Por supuesto, hay muchos artistas en el mundo, pero en nuestro entorno cubano también hay muchas y muy buenas referencias visuales como Korda, Cirenaica Moreira, Raúl Corrales, entre otros.

Una de esas artistas contemporáneas fue quien, con la muestra de su exposición personal, me logró sacar de la comodidad de mi hogar, para llevarme hasta la Galería Villa Manuela, ubicada en Calle H #406 entre 17 y 19, en el Vedado capitalino. Les hablo de Lissette Solózano, una artista cubana de la fotografía que recién inauguró en este espacio una muestra de algunas de la más de 20 piezas que integrarán una futura exposición.

Te propongo algunas fotos tomadas el día de la apertura de la muestra, y te recomiendo que descargues y leas el catálogo de la misma que te dejo al final del post.

La línea de trabajo difiere algo se los estaba acostumbrada a ver de su obra y, sin embargo, esta nueva propuesta me gusta mucho.

Espero que la disfruten y que si te gusta este mundo, dediques mucho tiempo a ver la obra de otros artistas. Quizás en futuro post aborde más sobre el tema. De momento, te dejo con las imágenes. ¡Un quiero!

When I started in the world of photography, something that became very clear to me is that I needed to study. Study a lot.

Not only because I lacked theoretical and practical knowledge, despite having taken some courses, but also because there was another issue that might seem less important than knowing about exposure, ISO, or types of shots. There was the fact, not simple at all, of seeing, reviewing, observing a lot of photographs and paintings.

"Oh, I thought you were going to tell me, you had to do a complete marathon," you might have thought (or something similar haha). But training your eyes is also part of learning and a BIG part of it.

Observing, which is not the same as looking, because the latter is related to perceiving our surroundings to avoid falling into a hole or tripping over a post, but the former is focusing on detail, it's a process that requires more concentration and a more active state of our consciousness, more similar to when you're trying to cross a street or avenue full of cars.

Since I started in this world, I go through life looking for photos 😅. When I walk through the streets, when I see an urban scene or a leaf on a tree in a certain position.

This way, I also started consuming many images online. One of the platforms I use is: Google Arts & Culture.
Since a part of my work is related to portraiture, I really enjoy looking at the works of Rembrandt, Johannes Vermeer, and Auguste Rodin, among others.

But there's also another part of photography that I like, and I think in this, as much as in music, I'm somewhat (VERY) eclectic and that's where several more artists come in like: Cartier-Bresson, Steve McCurry, Dorothea Lange, Chema Madoz, Brooke Shaden, Erik Johansson, well... quite a wide range. (If you like photography, I suggest you look up each name)

Of course, there are many artists worldwide, but in our Cuban environment, there are also many very good visual references like Korda, Cirenaica Moreira, Raúl Corrales, among others.

One of these contemporary artists was the one who, with the exhibition of her personal show, managed to get me out of the comfort of my home, to take me to Galería Villa Manuela, located at Calle H #406 between 17 and 19, in Vedado, Havana. I'm talking about Lissette Solózano, a Cuban photographer who recently opened a show of some of the more than 20 pieces that will be part of a future exhibition in this space.

I suggest some photos taken on the opening day of the show, and I recommend that you download and read the catalog of the show which I leave at the end of the post.

The line of work differs somewhat from what one was used to seeing from her work, and yet, I really like this new proposal.
