Reflections on a Small Plaza in the City

Ten days ago, I agreed to meet some relatives in a small plaza in the city. I wondered, how many plazas does a big city have? Generally, plazas in Latin America are areas located in the centers of cities and towns following the Spanish model inherited from the colonial era. Yes, a meeting area where religious, governmental, and commercial activities converged.

As you may know, many of the main plazas and some small ones have eponymous names, although not always. For example, the one I visited incidentally lacked an eponymous title. At least, not that I know of. I didn't see any commemorative plaque indicating otherwise.

This tiny plaza is not the only one in the area. Following the avenue, there is another more significant extension. The one I was at, I estimate to be around 2000 square meters due to the 228 steps I took on the peripheral walkway. Yes, I walked with my cell phone in hand exploring and trying to capture the here and now of those waiting moments.

In the past, when my children were still kids, I always stopped at the kiosk to buy technology magazines and others for my wife. Before, on the sides, there were mobile shelves full of various publications. Now, with the rise of digital media, there are few. Even so, they sell sweets and soft drinks for frequent visitors who take their young children to the swings and slides. Even older people, alone or accompanied, usually sit on strategically placed concrete benches to watch the children on the recreational structures in all four cardinal directions.

It is evident that the small plaza was recently restored. And the most eye-catching and relevant feature, in addition to the passive gaming machines, was the image of the Blue-and-yellow Macaw. Perhaps, this could be a good way to name this recreational space.

Speaking of recreation, I was amazed to see how some people sit on the peripheral concrete benches to contemplate the flow of vehicles on the avenue. By the way, an almost collision occurred at the traffic light due to the recklessness of a driver who decided to ignore it. Probably, that's the main attraction.

The place I'm showing you is located in Cumbre de Curumo in the city of Caracas. While it is not an exceptional or distinctive site, it did provide a moment of tranquility and contemplation of two crucial moments in human life: the first and last youth. One full of awakening and eager expectations of an unconscious future, and the other, full of plethoric experiences of the past.

It was worth the wait.

PS: On the Pinmapple map, I found the name of the square: Los tres ríos, as well as the name of the kiosk, or its owner: José. Perhaps, in the past in this place, three streams converged.

Hello, @tattoodjay

It is a pleasure to participate in the initiative that you lead every Wednesday. Yes, I have already visited some of the publications of this date, and they are quite good in content and photography.
