Inactivity Excuses

It's Banned Books Week again at the library. I thought about writing something on that topic, but I already have, at least twice. I do find it amusing, though, to see the people who were up in arms over COVID-19 dissent and Johnny the Walrus six months ago suddenly proclaiming themselves paragons of intellectual freedom. And vice-versa, of course.

Censorship is dumb. I understand and sympathize with people who don't want to be taxed to fund a collection of books they don't like, but asking us to remove items is not a sound response.

I snapped a shot of the sunset sky with my smartphone the other day. Smoke from forest fires has faded. Autumn is here with cooler nights and earlier twilight. But this didn't seem like content worthy of a post all to itself.

I have been playing Splitgate regularly, and need to try uploading some footage to 3Speak soon. If you like first-person shooters, give it a try. It just left beta for final release. It's free to play on Steam, Xbox One. and PlayStation 5.

Play is a lot like classic Halo multiplayer with small 4 v. 4 matches, but adds portals to the mix for added tactical options. I like the colorful game palate, and the sports theme is a nice departure from the drab Call of Duty clones. Weapons have a variety of skins, but nothing is pay-to-win. Guns are what they are, and look like your selected version whether you start with them or find them on the battlefield. I like this return to simplicity in favor of skill.

I also 3D-printed a new case for my Raspberry Pi 4. It has a bay for a laptop solid state drive. I still need to assemble everything, test it out, and then write up my opinions. I also want to try again to run Ubuntu. The last time I tried, there were problems. I would welcome any advice from other users.

Less activity on HIVE just means I'm occupied with offline activities. Tomorrow is D&D night, and I need to schedule a post for that evening next. I plan to put more work into blogging this weekend, but that may be hampered by family activities. Only time will tell!
