#Wednesday Walk - Highlights During Some of my Walks (December 2021 to December 2022)

This post is for the #wednesdaywalk challenge and the #makemesmile challenge collaboration. This collaboration initially took place once a month, but due to its popularity, @tattoodjay (of the #wednesdaywalk) and @elizacheng (of #makemesmile) decided to make it a weekly thing.

If you want to know more about the rules, visit this post by @tattoodjay where you will find all the rules at the bottom of his post after you've enjoyed his beautiful photos from his walk.

During the past week, we had quite a hectic schedule. But besides that, there was hardly an opportunity to go for a decent walk since we had a lot of rain in our area.

But looking through my photos, I thought it might be a good idea to highlight some of the walks with some photos I took over the past year.

It wouldn't be in any specific order though. I would just like to take you on a trip down memory lane with me, looking at some of the shots I was able to get between December 2021 and December 2022.

So, here we go.

Umgeni Steam Railway.

The Umgeni Steam Railway is a fun train in the Outer West area. It is a wonderful tourist attraction and provides fun for international tourists, South African holidaymakers in general, and locals alike.

Its normal route is between Kloof and Inchanga, but due to damage to the railway line during the floods we experienced in April of 2022, everything came to a halt.

Currently, I believe the train is running again. But it now departs from Inchanga, traveling to Botha's Hill and back due to the fact that they are still busy with repairs to the railway line to Kloof.

Here are some photos from December 2021.

At the Right Place at the Right Time.

On one of my walks in July of this year, I was fortunate enough to be at the right place at the right time.

I was able to get some shots of this giant cargo ship entering Durban harbor.

DSC_2401.jpg

Wilson's Wharf.

During the course of the year, I managed to get some nice shots while going on numerous walks in Wilson's Wharf.

DSC_2899.JPG

I came across this interesting yacht on one of my walks...

And some nice sunrise shots over Wilson's Wharf...

The spots in the photo above, are not dirt on your screen... They are birds having a good time in the early morning hours...

On the South Coast

I was fortunate to get some nice shots of splashes while the surf was breaking over the rocks on the beach in Amanzimtoti.

One of te Most Photographed Sites on the Durban Coastline.

In Umhlanga Rocks, located on the Northcoast, we have gone for many walks.

I managed to get this shot of the Whale-bone Pier on one of my early-morning walks in Umhlanga Rocks.

Paradise Valley.

One of our walks was in Paradise Valley. After following an adventurous hiking trail through the bush, we eventually arrived at this beautiful waterfall.

The Valley of 1000 Hills.

We have done quite a few walks in the Valley of 1000 Hills and as can be expected, we enjoyed some beautiful scenes and spectacular views.

And that's it for today, Folks! I hope you enjoyed my walks with me and also enjoyed reliving some of them today with me.

Thank you for reading my post! I do appreciate it!

Wonderful photography over the year, places vary to such a degree one cannot compare each being splendid.

Train will always peak my interest after growing up using this mode of transport, how much we miss the days of train travel!

!LUV Possibility of more rains arriving on the weekend, we sure are saturated. Black outs along with fibre connection problems have been a nightmare to say the least, have a great day!

Thank you for your kind words and your encouraging feedback, @joanstewart! I do appreciate it!

Yes, the train is very special to me too! I agree with you, I miss those days. If you want to relive that experience as we had in those days, you must be willing to pay a fortune today!

Yes, with this rain, I feel sorry for the holidaymakers too.

You must have a great day too👍!

With all the stupid rulings imposed of late I would not take any of the long distance trains. Expensive, elitist, hobnobbing, overdressed, all under air-conditioning which I don't enjoy on trains.

Short trips from Kloof inland and back are fine outings, not quite the same as earlier adventures, a good reminder 😅

Flip-flop decisions about water condition for swimming, I hope the people consider before entering any water along the coast, still able to enjoy their break.

Sweltering hot, hiding once again from the weather, electrical storms more regular feature in the evenings !LOLZ

What you say about the trains is true!

Swimming conditions for people taking a break... I hope for the best for their sake. In all honesty, I find it hard to keep up with which beaches are open and which are closed. So, I rather stay out of the water (at the beach...). I suppose, if you are here on holiday (or live close to a particular beach), it will be easier to keep up with updates on whether a particular beach is safe and open or not...

Sweltering hot, hiding once again from the weather, electrical storms more regular feature in the evenings

Yes, this heat is something else. We actually had some fun with my wife's niece visiting us from Johannesburg over the past few days...she was battling with the heat...lol. And the electrical storms...yes, we had some vicious ones here...

Humidity here is like having a hot wet blanket thrown over you, even though other places experience more humidity and heat apparently Durban is known to be extreme!

Hope you have and air-conditioned area for your niece to catch her breath when we have electricity....

Nope...no air-conditioned area here....only fans😅!

She has left over the weekend to join up with her parents again, going to their home in Cape Town for the rest of the December holiday. She finished matric this year, so I believe it's a welcome break for her after a challenging year for all matrics...even in spite of the heat.

Fans never stop, being on the coast I use both on many days during summer or I would not make it through this heat.

Trust her exams went well, start of the next part of the journey in life for her finding what she would love to do going forward.

Same here...lol. The fans are running non-stop!

Yes, she is all excited about next year. She is absolutely passionate about animals and she will start studying at TUKS next year to become a veterinarian. Apparently, her studies will eventually take her to Onderste Poort before finally completing her studies.

Lovely old university, bit far from Cape Town so will be a big change for her, Onderstepoort will give great hands on teaching facilities. Right place to obtain education.
