#Wednesday Walk - A Clear Day on Battery Beach.

This post is for the #wednesdaywalk challenge and the #makemesmile challenge collaboration. This collaboration initially took place once a month, but due to its popularity, @tattoodjay (of the #wednesdaywalk) and @elizacheng (of #makemesmile) decided to make it a weekly thing.

If you want to know more about the rules, visit this post by @tattoodjay where you will find all the rules at the bottom of his post after you've enjoyed his beautiful photos from his walk.

After last week's post about our night at the rugby, I wanted to get some photos of Kings Park Stadium during the day as well.

So, so last weekend we went down to the stadium to take some photos.

But while in the area, I decided to go for a walk on Battery Beach. It is one of the beaches, which forms part of the popular "Golden Mile" in Durban.

Battery Beach is located on the northern end of the Golden Mile, just before you get to the Suncoast Casino. It is known as one of the more quiet beaches that is less crowded. It's a nice beach for families to come and relax on the beach and play around in the water as there are normally lifeguards on duty.

Lifeguards at work...

Haha... No, as you can see, the photo above is a photo of a photo. This is a photo of members of the Pirates Lifeguard Club though.

But to put it in full perspective, this photo is displayed on the wall of their clubhouse as you can see in the next photo.

I believe the club is open to the public at certain times when you can sit down and enjoy your breakfast and/or have something to drink there. We definitely want to do that sometime.

In the next photo, I walked around to the side of the building to get a shot of the wall art on the side of their building. If you look to the right in the photo, you can actually catch a glimpse of some people who were sitting down for something to eat while we passed there.

Looking south, this is the beginning of the Golden Mile, with the city of Durban on your right and the ocean on your left.

DSC_6916.jpg

To our immediate right, was the Blue Waters Hotel...a popular hotel for holiday accommodation.

DSC_6915.jpg

We started our walk toward the beach and this little palm tree caught my attention...

DSC_6914.jpg

We headed out to one of the piers on the beach.

There are little benches all along the pier where you can sit down and just enjoy being at the ocean.

DSC_6926.jpg

One thing you will always find when you're at the ocean...rust.

DSC_6935.jpg

All along the pier are lamp posts to provide light at night time...

DSC_6963.jpg

...and as you can see in the last photo and the next, from here, the pier is slightly elevated from this point on.

DSC_6936.jpg

Sitting down on one of those little benches, we just admired the ocean and I enjoyed the waves coming in, listening to the sound of the waves breaking onto the beach...

Looking inland and up north, you can see the Suncoast Casino ( where we parked our car) when we went to the rugby match. This is from where we walked to get to the stadium.

The arch that is visible behind the Suncoast Casino buildings, is the Moses Mabhida Soccer Stadium, which is right next to the King Stadium where we watched the game.

DSC_6958-2.jpg

If you look to the extreme right in the photo above, you'll see the top of a "dome-like" building.

Walking to the stadium, that is where we pass until we eventually take a left turn toward the stadium.

In the next photo, looking down south, this is the view of the lower end of Durban from the pier on Battery Beach.

DSC_6952.jpg

Zooming out, to get a wider view, including more of the city of Durban.

DSC_6954.jpg

Returning to the promenade, the pier stretched out ahead of us toward the beach.

Where you see it narrowing down is where you can get off the pier to go onto the beach or choose to continue straight to go back up to the promenade.

DSC_6976.jpg

Leaving the pier behind, going up to the promenade...

And that was our walk for the day.

Thank you for reading my post!

I do appreciate it!

I used to have a friend from Durban who would showed me pictures of it. I wanted to visit the country when I was a kid but these days, I'll think twice😄 I am just happy seeing it from the pictures for now. As usual, awesome shots!

Yes, we have a beautiful country, and don't get me wrong...I love this country, but we currently have to deal with a lot of nonsense in this country. So I don't blame you for thinking twice...😄

In the meantime, I'm glad you're enjoying the pictures! Thank you for the kind words! I do appreciate it!

Oh, the poor palm tree made me feel a little sorry for it in all the luxury and entertainment. Maybe she got bored of being there alone hahaha and got depressed. hahaha... but I don't understand why she has a nice view of the sea.
(just kidding a bit)

I love the sound of the sea and I could almost hear it... can you imagine... me here in Havana, sitting in front of my laptop, writing this comment, and listening to the sound of the waves crashing like this... this is the magic of Hive, my friend.

The dome building, what is it? I don't think it has anything to do with art or museum... the designers of hotels in beach areas are very creative.

I loved this walk, enjoyed it and smiled too. Thanks @jacoalberts.

Yes, that's why that palm tree caught my eye too...lol! It looked kind of "lonely"...so, maybe a bit depressed as you say😄...

The magic of Hive! I do agree with you! Isn't it great? You can sit in Havana in front of your laptop...yet you can listen to crashing waves in Durban, South Africa! That's just awesome!

The dome building is an extension of the Suncoast Casino. You can find some restaurants and entertainment areas there. The creators of such places are very creative indeed.

I'm glad you enjoyed the walk with us and that it brought a smile to your face!

Thank you for stopping by and for your feedback, @nanixxx! It was fun reading your comment and I appreciate it!
