Waves, Rocks, and Fishermen on the East Coast on South Africa.

If you have been following me for any time, you would know by now that I love the ocean.

About twenty years ago, our dream came true and we moved down to the Durban area on the east coast of South Africa.

I was amazed by how many people told us that we would only be here for a couple of months and then we wouldn't even be bothered about the ocean.

Well...to this day, we use every opportunity we can to visit the beach and spend as much time as possible enjoying the ocean.

What I love about the ocean, is the fact that it's never the same. One day it's smooth, it's calm and the sun is shining. Next time it can be cloudy and windy and the sea is stormy...

I would like to share some photos today that were taken on two different days, at two different beaches, under different weather conditions.

Umhlanga on a Cloudy Day.

Umhlanga is north of Durban.

About two weeks ago, I visited Umhlanga Beach. It was a cool, cloudy day. There was a bit of a breeze, but nothing serious. It was enough to cause some spray on the waves as they came rolling in toward the beach.

The next photo was taken while I was standing on the Whalebone Pier. I watched the waves coming toward me. I love it when I'm able to catch the wave just at the right moment...just as it breaks.

Not a huge one, but another beautiful wave coming in...

While the smaller waves were rolling out on the beach, some bigger ones were breaking behind them where the water was somewhat deeper...

Some waves were coming in towards a rocky area on the beach...

Just after the wave broke...

St. Winifred's Beach on a Sunny Day.

Last weekend, we went down to St. Winifred's Beach, south of Durban.

It was a beautiful, warm, sunny day. For many, it would be the perfect day to be in the water...but not on St.Winifred's Beach...

Just the day before, a shark was spotted in the water. It wasn't clear if there was only one shark or maybe more. There was also no certainty yet whether it was safe to go back in the water, so no swimming was allowed on this particular day.

The water was clear and peaceful.

While some crystal white waves were rolling out onto the beach, some fishermen were active on the rocks.

I used the opportunity to capture the silhouette of the guy to the left at the far end of the rocks.

In the meantime, the water was creating some beautiful scenes below the rocks.

In the next photo, it looks like the water was squirting from the rocks...

But it wasn't...

It was the waves breaking against the rocks.

Let's go back to the fishermen...

I was then in a position to get a good shot of this guy too...

I think he became aware of me taking photos and looked around. I signaled him for a "thumbs-up", and in a good spirit he gave me a friendly "thumbs-up"!

And that's it for today, folks!

Thank you for reading my post! I do appreciate it!
