Interesting Activity on Umhlanga Beach

There are several places along our coastline where boat owners launch their boats from the beaches.

I love watching this kind of activity...launching the boats, and also when the boats are returning from the ocean, coming back onto the beach.

I am amazed by the skills of these guys, to negotiate their way through the surf until they are out in the open, with the wide open ocean ahead of them. And then again, when they return, calculating the right timing to find their way back again, and piloting their boats through the surf right onto the beach.

Especially here in Umhlanga, which is a rocky beach, I am amazed by the skills of these guys. When you look at the photos I am sharing today, you will notice in some of the photos how some rocky areas are visible at times just behind the boat in the shallow water.

How these guys can navigate their way through the surf while keeping track of where the rocky areas are just below the surface of the water, is just amazing!

This past Sunday morning was one of those mornings...

We went for an unplanned walk on the promenade just above the beach in Umhlanga. At one point, I noticed a boat that just came out of the water as we were approaching.

They were busy preparing the boat to get it back onto its trailer. It was a nice boat and I stopped to watch the activity.

Next, out came the camera and I started taking some photos...lol. Well...actually, the camera was in my hands already as I was taking photos along our walk. So, having the camera in my hand already, it was a natural action/response, to lift the camera to my face and start capturing the activity through the lens of my camera.

The tractor had just arrived with the boat's trailer, and they were busy positioning it in front of the boat. They started elevating the nose of the trailer, to perfectly position it before pulling the boat onto the trailer with a winch on the tractor.

With the trailer in position and its nose elevated, it was time to get the cable from the winch to the boat.

With the cable extended far enough, it was time to position it and get it in line with the boat.

Then the cable got attached to the boat. In the next photo, you can see one of the youngsters busy attaching the cable to the front of the boat.

With the cable attached, it was time to get out from under the boat...

Then, under the watchful eye of the boat owner, the process began of pulling the boat onto the trailer.

Halfway there...and the trailer's nose is slowly starting to come down.

Almost there... every was happening slowly and gracefully.

With only a few more inches to go, the boat owner gets the chain ready to secure the boat to the trailer.

With the boat in place and the winch chain removed from the boat, the boat owner now secured the boat to the trailer.

And off they go...

The tractor took the boat to where the boat owner's vehicle was parked.

We had to pass there on our way to our car, so I stopped again to take a nice close-up photo of the boat.

I didn't see the boat owner around, but two of the youngsters were standing around next to the boat and one was on the boat.

I asked if they would mind if I took a photo of the boat and they had no problem.

I encouraged the youngster on the boat to give me a nice thumbs-up, and he responded in a friendly manner, giving me a double thumbs-up...lol!

And with that, we come to the end of today's post.

Thank you for reading my post! I do appreciate it!
