jogasaki coast experience

this is the 2nd part of this entry below where we went up a dormant volcano which was also a reference for an anime movie. the events that transpired in this entry all happened in the afternoon. so if you are curious what happened in the morning, then better check out this blog as well.

your name in mt omuro : October 18 2025

after some mountain or volcano time in mt omuro, we wanted to have some moments with the sea. welcome to this unesco global geopark recognized coast.

jogasaki coast (城ヶ崎海岸)

there were two trails, one seemed easy as it was paved. the other went down some steps and into some rocky area. and what did we choose? the one going down, obviously. we were all in for some adventure for sure. that path led to this rocky sea front opening. housemate jb and housemate c stressed that this beach is clearly not for swimming.

not far away, we saw this rocky area. these were clearly not some common rocks, more like from a volcanic past. and sure it was as confirmed by their website.

jogasaki coast was formed by lava flowing out when mount omuro erupted approximately 4,000 years ago. ^source

that also confirmed that mount omuro, although very docile now, had a very violent past.

the trail we chose went up and down steps, in and out of the woods, towards and away from the sea. there was this area with a gaping hole with the sea waters visible below.

the rocks around this opening were now smooth. these were for sure smoothened by the waves. but not far away was this cliffy area favored by some fishers. i wonder what types of fishes are caught in these turbulent waves.

from an uphill clearing, here is a view of that rugged cliffs and coast. those foamy waves also indicated how strong they were. as we were at a vantage point facing the open sea, that sea breeze was the best feeling ever. but that breeze was a bit strong so better make sure to be on stable footing.

that horizon was to die for: seemed endless depending on how far your eye could see. but those jagged edges were also deadly to fall on as well, morbid type this one.

here is me after some solo shots. better be careful! from here we could also see the kadowakisaki lighthouse. that would surely have a 360 degree view of the whole area.

we climbed up and saw the rugged coasts and the now dormant mount omuro responsible for all of these formations. she was far away so it must have been some gigantic explosion to reach this far to the sea.

kadowaki suspension bridge was the next stop. not really a place to stop for the faint of hearts as the bridge wobbles for every foot traffic passing.

i originally thought that that whole place was connected.

one rock cliff was in fact an island, tsubakuro-jima. that cliff fascinated my imagination but also triggered my fear of heights. but that island was clearly showing its volcanic origins. i am submitting this as my entry to #aroundtheworld contest by @bucipuci.

and that was how up high we were, for a non-swimmer like me this is more than scary. my legs were trembling just from taking these pictures.

enough of this fear inducing sites. we quickly headed back to the bus stop as the last ride schedule was just minutes away. this time we chose the easy route going back, it just took around 10 minutes back to the entrance.

jogasaki - kaigan station (城ヶ崎海岸駅)

what a cute station stamp showing the kadowakisaki lighthouse and the kadowaki suspension bridge. this station had a log cabin vibes to it. very interesting and very different from the other train stations i have been to. but it is also very remote, with just one tapping machine serving as the ticket gate.

this trip was very enjoyable! it was fun connecting to the sea; although i could not touch it by hand, it certainly touched my heart.
