the AI debackle : July 18 2025
this is one of the views from our office building. it looks very calming. but that blue sky helped a lot. the skytree is the icing. i immediately took a picture when i saw this man resting. well, i also came to this room to rest for a bit. i just needed that little breather as well.
good thing that lunch was around the corner and there was no signs of rain. we could go out and enjoy the waters while having lunch. the only complain this time was the blazing sun. i loved this photo of a man sitting alone under his umbrella. i would have easily chosen this as my favorite picture of the day, it was a close tie with the window pic above.
i actually tried to remove some objects in these two pictures: the poster texts at the right of the window, and the lone stem overgrowth of this water facing picture. AI did a great job of filling in the removed items and i was happy. but then, a very clear "AI generated" watermark was also shown and that was a bit disappointing. i would have been ok with it if AI made the picture from scratch. but i saw the scene, i thought of taking the picture, and i took the picture. i only asked AI to get rid of something and it took claim of the whole picture. that does not seem right and did not sit right with me. so here we are with the original picture.
i know why they needed that watermark; removing items from the picture could easily be used maliciously, all the more with adding layers to a picture. but "generated" is just like claiming the whole thing. i would have been ok with "updated" or anything similar.
here were the rest of the pictures taken that day.
birds atop the trees where we had lunch below. fortunately, no bird droppings nor bird theivery happened.
this lattice design on the bridge over a road looked dramatic. period films sometimes have windows with a similar motif. this was on the way to tokyo. my colleague and i decided to have this short stroll from office to tokyo station.
building were sprawling in the area. we were crossing this wide street when the stop light turned red, and we were left standing on the island in the middle. taking that as an opportunity, i took this picture.
and lastly, this picture of a giraffe statue in the nihonbashi district leading to the station. this was by izumi ando erected in 1989. this statue stands at 6.25 meters tall. you can search more about it through typing "giraffe statue tokyo", that is what i did.
as always, AMPING KANUNAY!
