revisiting ueno park : May 26 2025
this is my first time to be back here in ueno park. and the first thing that greeted me was this couple hugging in front of the fountain. the fountain was cool and all, look at those colors which looked like new additions. but all of that did not matter, i just wanted to capture this hugging moment of this couple. at least they were in front of the fountain, i could easily spare me some doubt of taking fountain photos. i am so sorry, but this couple is the star of the shot for me. i will surely submit this to a photofeed contest here in hive.
that got me side tracked right away, back to the topic at hand. the park is currently hosting this houseware fair, household artisans from around japan were invited to display and sell their merchandise for a week. the fair was already closed when i arrived, but i saw a glimpse of what it could have been. this specific shop was selling ceramics and it would have been nice to check them out. oops! this just shows that i am growing older, me appreciating ceramics and household utensils. i could easily remember a friend stating that household stuff buying is a hobby enjoyed by titos and titas (uncles and aunties). what do you say @wittyzell and @appleeatingapple?
unfortunately though, tomorrow is the last day of this fair and they close early at 6pm. i will never make it.

the park is now very green. all of these trees were sakuras, and it just fascinates me how different they look in each season. green is the theme for the night.
and this second photo, if i am not mistaken, is the statue of... nah, it is not of hachiko and professor ueno, i too was mistaken about that. although there is a statue about the reunion of hachiko and his master not far from here, this statue is not it. this legendary man further predates those two, this was of saigo takamori and his loyal dog. the man was dubbed as the last true samurai. and yes, he was also the inspiration of that hollywood blockbuster.

i further descended some steps and found this other entrance of the ueno zoo, a zoo in the middle of ueno park. it just looked interesting to see how empty the entrance is now that it is close. but surely these guiding queue posts suggest the volume of people expected each day. it has been some time since the last time i went in, but that would surely take a whole day. i get pretty much excited to see animals, and would definitely take a significant amount of time in each display.
now here at the temple in the middle of the pond, this silhouette of two travelers were very prominent. they were acting like how travelers do, take pictures of everything they see. and here i am, taking pictures of them.
did i mention that there was a pond? it had lots of water lilies but these were still starting to grow. in the winter they dry out and go dormant, and now they were starting to grow. by summer, this side of the pond will surely be taken over by the lilies and blooms will be every where. right now is just perfect to see the surrounding buildings reflected on the surface with some lily leaves obstructing some parts. (this photo will be submitted to #aroundtheworld contest.)
and before i left the park, this view of the city with some boats was the perfect parting shot. did i mention that there was a pond? and this pond was big enough to host some boats.
this is how the nightwalk went.
as always, AMPING KANUNAY!

thank you for sharing your adventure in ueno park
my pleasure
What a nice walk. And the start of it, to see a couple hugging, was a wonderful way to step off. I imagine the pond was filled with koi. I know most ponds at the parks in Okinawa were.
oh yes that pond was filled with open mouthed kois when i went close even when it was dark.
and on those couple, the fountain was full of them
Looks like a very happy couple!😍
