Captured in Action: The Mama Cat Giving Birth

It was May 7, 2013, and my camera was brand new so I was playing around and did some test shots for my Nikon D5100. Mingming was pregnant and suddenly, she was uncomfortable. She was seeking a place like she was in a panic.

She found a place under the TV rack with folders and other documents

I saw the face of the kitten

She started to clean her private

As you can see, she was under our DVD player

She continued cleaning her kitten

Started to move around

Poor little thing

There was blood around

Not yet finish to clean

Clean again and again

She gave birth to two little kittens and I transferred her to a big box with newspapers

When I was taking the photos, I asked myself if it is appropriate or not to take photos of a cat giving birth. But suddenly, I felt the urge to witness a wonderful event for a cat. I know that seeing blood is gruesome but I still had no choice because it was me who would clean the mess.

I never thought that capturing the moment on a DSLR made it more dramatic. I wasn't sure if the previous digital camera I had would take any justice. Having these shots made me feel like a professional photographer.

I was using Automatic Mode as I wasn't familiar with Manual Mode yet. I love the vivid color of Nikon as I never edited this on Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom.

I posted this photo on my personal FB and some friends who are into photography made nice feedback about capturing it at the moment. So, I guess these are once of my lucky shots.
