Spinning Serendipity: Embracing Challenges on the Pottery Wheel |
The Kiyomizu ceramics in my last post brought up fond memories of a pottery workshop I had years ago. With the instructor's assistance, we prepared clay and centered it on the wheel. Throwing the wheel to create the desired shape was not so easy, but it's a lot of fun too.
In the hands of the master, the clay was as velvety as chocolate and transformed into a piece of art in a flash. When it was my turn, though, I messed up a few times until I was able to form anything with a regular shape.XD
The clay wobbled, twisted, and collapsed under the pressure of my inexperienced hands. With each attempt, I discovered the challenges and rewards of the pottery making process. I learned the importance of delicate balance of pressure, speed, and finesse required to shape the clay.
The workshop was a brief glimpse into the vast world of pottery making. As the session came to an end, I yearned for more. The wonderful experience left me hungry for further practice. I would love to enroll in a longer course where I could refine my skills and explore the art form on a deeper level.

For the best experience view this post on Liketu
This is a very intresting visuals, thank you for the curious entertaining walk.
My pleasure. Glad to hear you enjoyed the fun workshop too!
Wow it is a great experience for you. I haven't tried it and yes you might be right that it is not easy to make those clay formed into a beautiful pot.
I could barely make a standing form at first, not to say beautiful, haha!
There is nothing more satisfying than watching someone transform the clay on a turntable!!
...even though I bet it must be not at all as easy as it looks:D
Very satisfying and soothing indeed! I screwed it up multiple times. :p
Donica, I hope you get to take another class. Ceramics looks like a great medium and I think I would like it too!
I hope so too. Your father is a sculptor right? You probably have the talent like him! Here are 2 potters I follow on youtube if you are interested, they make great vids:
Very interesting --thank you so much for sharing
You are welcome.
As a child, I loved playing with clay and making shapes out of it. I still really want to work with ceramics but I haven't tried it for a long time. I will try to find a place for it. Thank you for this beautiful post.
You are most welcome, always a great pleasure to see my post being an inspiration to others. Hope we will both find time for it in future! :)
Thank you dear🌸
