In my last post, we had a glimpse into Cortona's architectural splendour and idyllic landscape. Now, let's look at some of the town's culinary delights as well as works of art and craft.

The food you see here is from a lunch with my family in Osteria del Teatro. It is near the Teatro Signorelli named after the renowned local painter Luca Signorelli. Born in Cortona in 1445, Luca Signorelli was an influential artist during the Italian Renaissance. The theatre was built in the late 18th century in a neo-classical style. It has been a venue for various cultural events, including theatre performances, concerts, and festivals. On the ground level, there is also a lovely café.

The Osteria del Teatro, as you can see from my photos, is likewise decorated with theatre-related motifs. Even the restroom was filled with puppets and dolls. It serves traditional Tuscan pasta, cheese, and meat dishes. The quality food is recommended as Michelin Plate in the guide. Its rustic rooms looked cozy with fireplaces, but on that hot summer day, we ate outside on the garden terrace surrounded by trees and flowers. The ice cream dessert was divine, and later, we also grabbed gelato from a street vendor.

Cortona has a long-standing tradition of craftsmanship and artistic expression, which is evident in its vibrant art scene and numerous artisan shops. We visited galleries and studios where both local and international artists showcased their work. One obvious thing to remember while shopping is that prices are typically lower at shops further away from the major streets.
