Walking Through the Art Gallery
I’m a person with simple tastes who loves her city and enjoys walking, so what better way to explore than by immersing myself in the artistic heart of Caracas. On this occasion, I ventured into the National Art Gallery, but I didn’t head straight to its exhibition halls; instead, I chose to wander through its open spaces, discovering interesting sculptures, cozy nooks, and an atmosphere steeped in art, history, and academic tradition.

Caminando por la Galería de Arte
Soy una persona de gustos simples, que ama su ciudad y que disfruta caminar, así que qué mejor manera para pasear que sumergiéndonos en el corazón artístico de la ciudad de Caracas. En esta oportunidad me adentré en las instalaciones de la Galería de Arte Nacional, pero no me fui directo a sus salas de exposiciones, sino que en esta oportunidad preferí danzar a través de sus espacios abiertos, para de esta manera descubrir interesantes esculturas, rinconcitos acogedores y un ambiente marcado por el arte, la historia y el academicismo.
Surprisingly, I discovered a small book fair featuring numerous cutting-edge and thought-provoking titles that seek to challenge certain ideas while simultaneously building a somewhat more alternative world. Perhaps these political themes serve as the starting point for many discussions from the perspective of social reality, but I didn’t come here to delve into that topic; rather, I came to stroll among the shelves, flip through a few pages, and perhaps discover something that interests me.
Sorpresivamente, descubrí una pequeña feria del libro en donde existen numerosos títulos de tendencia y reverentes, que buscan romper con algunas ideas y al mismo tiempo construir un mundo un tanto más alternativo. Quizás estas diarias políticas sean el punto de partida de muchas discusiones desde el punto de vista de la realidad social, pero no vine acá para ahondar en ese tema, sino para caminar entre sus anaqueles, pasar algunas páginas y quizás descubrir algo que me interese.
For some time now, the National Art Gallery has ceased to be an isolated structure in the city; its construction on Plaza de la Juventud has created a truly incredible urban connection, where the gallery became an institution permanently open to the public, with very easy access and an impressive urban landscape, marked by the towers of Parque Central, the grandeur of high-density residential buildings, and the beauty of a sky that, as on this occasion, shifts in hue to frame truly idyllic scenes.
Desde hace un tiempo, la Galería de Arte Nacional dejó de ser una estructura aislada de la ciudad; de construirse a la Plaza de la Juventud, se generó una interconexión urbana realmente increíble, en donde la galería se convirtió en una institución abierta al público de manera permanente, con un muy fácil acceso y con un paisaje urbano impresionante, el cual está marcado por las torres de Parque Central, la grandeza de los edificios residenciales de alta densidad y la exquisitez de un cielo que, como en esta ocasión, se matiza para encuadrar imágenes realmente idílicas.
These spaces are marked by a distinct dynamism, where the power and strength of youth make all the difference; the gray of Brutalist architecture converges with the color and joy of the contemporary, with the abstract forms of art, and with the divergent ideas of so many titles that take on meaning in thousands of letters.
Estos espacios están marcados por un dinamismo diferente, en donde el poder y la fuerza de la juventud marcan la diferencia; el gris de la arquitectura brutalista converge con el color y la alegría de la contemporaneidad, con las formas abstractas del arte y con las ideas divergentes de tantos títulos que cobran sentido en miles de letras.
Walking through this city amid complex and ever-changing times is like navigating the paths of living history; it is becoming part of a world that has never been static, but which, on the Venezuelan side, seems to be moving faster and faster. This is why places like this hold such deep meaning and value, as they allow us to immerse ourselves in a small bubble that takes us away from daily problems and difficulties, letting us relax and enjoy those things that, at the same time, intrinsically leave a lesson and a message in our hearts.
Caminar por esta ciudad en medio de una actualidad compleja y cambiante es surcar los caminos de la historia viva, es formar parte de un mundo que nunca ha sido estático, pero que en el lado venezolano pareciera moverse cada vez más rápido. Es por esta razón que lugares como este tienen un significado y un valor agregado profundo, ya que nos permiten sumergirnos en una pequeña burbuja que nos aleja de los problemas y las dificultades diarias, permitiéndonos relajarnos y disfrutar de aquellas cosas que, al mismo tiempo, dejan de forma intrínseca una enseñanza y un mensaje dentro de nuestro corazón.
If you ever have the chance to visit the city of Caracas, take the opportunity to stroll through the National Art Gallery on a Wednesday; I am sure it will be a comforting experience, where you will not only connect with the deepest art of an entire country, but you will also be enveloped by the strength and power of an entire city.
Si algún día te toca visitar la ciudad de Caracas, aprovecha de pasear un miércoles por las instalaciones de la Galería de Arte Nacional; estoy seguro de que esta será una experiencia reconfortante, en donde no solo conectarás con el arte más profundo de todo un país, sino que irás arropado por la fuerza y el poder de toda una ciudad.
