El sábado tuve un paseo muy interesante del cual extraje estas fotos para compartirles. Visité un rinconcito de mi ciudad en donde sobreviven algunos mangles, un lugar en el que esta especie, está luchando por no desaparecer, aunque nosotros los seres humanos se lo ponemos cada vez más difícil.

Mientras caminábamos a la sombra de los mangles, se nos iban explicando los perfeccionados mecanismos de supervivencia que ha desarrollado esta especie, como por ejemplo sus raíces, que están reforzadas para aislarse de la sal (al contrario de lo que muchos puedan creer, no se alimenta de agua salada), sus hojas son gruesas para reducir la evaporación y tiene complicadas estructuras para excretar los excesos de sal. Cuanto más nos explicaban sobre ellos, más nos dábamos cuenta de lo frágil que es su ecosistema y lo mucho que se esfuerzan por continuar ahí.

Una de las cosas que más me impresionó en este recorrido fueron las raíces que crecen hacia afuera del suelo y que nos explicaron, son "neumatóforos", de gravitropismo negativo. Un tipo de raíz especializada que desarrollan las plantas que crecen en suelos anegados, para poder respirar. Un concepto que no entendí del todo, pues no soy bióloga, pero más o menos me hago una idea de lo impresionante que es la evolución y el instinto de supervivencia de esta especie.

También encontramos un esqueleto de pez globo, cuevas de cangrejos y caracolitos, que forman parte de este ecosistema, además pudimos observar que estos mangles están floreciendo y fructificando, por lo que quizá si los dejamos tranquilos, puedan formar allí un manglar y restituir su ecosistema.

El paseo fue una salida enmarcada en el taller de exploración literaria: "flora cumanensis"; un innovador taller que une miradas científicas, naturalistas y poéticas. Ya les hablaré un poco más sobre ello en otras publicaciones.

On Saturday I had a very interesting walk from which I extracted these photos to share with you. I visited a small corner of my city where some mangroves survive, a place where this species is fighting not to disappear, although we human beings make it increasingly difficult for them.

While we walked in the shade of the mangroves, the perfected survival mechanisms that this species has developed were explained to us, such as its roots, which are reinforced to insulate themselves from salt (contrary to what many may believe, they are not It feeds on salt water), its leaves are thick to reduce evaporation and it has complicated structures to excrete excess salt. The more they explained to us about them, the more we realized how fragile their ecosystem is and how hard they try to stay there.

One of the things that impressed me the most on this tour were the roots that grow out of the ground and which they explained to us are "pneumatophores", with negative gravitropism. A type of specialized root that plants that grow in waterlogged soil develop in order to breathe. A concept that I did not fully understand, since I am not a biologist, but I more or less get an idea of how impressive the evolution and survival instinct of this species is.

We also found a puffer fish skeleton, crab caves and snails, which are part of this ecosystem. We were also able to observe that these mangroves are flowering and fruiting, so perhaps if we leave them alone, they can form a mangrove forest there and restore their ecosystem. .

The walk was an outing framed in the literary exploration workshop: "flora cumanensis"; an innovative workshop that unites scientific, naturalistic and poetic views. I'll talk a little more about it in other posts.
