Shadow Hunters SMASh Contest - Round # 419. The Shadow of a Bench by the Sea [Eng/Esp]

The Shadow of a Bench by the Sea
Hello dear #ShadowHunters community,
This is my entry for the #ShadowHunters contest number 419.
There are places near the sea that invite you to stop, even if only for a few minutes. Not necessarily because of something extraordinary, but because of the quiet way they combine light, air and space.
In this case, I found myself in a beach area of my city, where a simple wooden bench was placed facing the open surroundings. It is the kind of object that often goes unnoticed, simply part of the landscape, waiting for someone to sit and rest.

However, what caught my attention was not the bench itself, but its shadow.
The sunlight was strong enough to clearly define its shape on the ground. The lines of the wood, the structure, and even the spaces between the slats were projected with surprising clarity, forming a dark silhouette that stretched over the surface.
It was interesting to see how something so ordinary could transform through light.
The bench, which during the day serves a practical purpose, became something more visual in that moment. Its shadow almost seemed like a second version of itself — quieter, flatter, but equally present.
I paused for a moment to observe it.
There was no one sitting there, no movement around it, just the stillness of the place and the contrast between light and shadow. In that simplicity, the scene felt complete.
Sometimes, objects designed for rest also create these small visual moments when they are empty.
The absence of a person made the shadow more noticeable, as if the bench was still fulfilling a purpose — not by being used, but by leaving its mark on the ground.
That is why I decided to photograph it.
Because even a simple wooden bench, under the right light, can become part of a quiet composition made only of shapes, light… and shadow.
Up to this point my entry for this week’s contest. The images are my property and for the English version I use DeepL Translate.
