The Shadow of a Beach Lounger by the Sea
Hello dear #ShadowHunters community,
This is my entry for the ShadowHunters SMASh contest number 426.
These days the sun in Cuba feels especially intense. Summer has not even officially arrived yet, and still, being outside for too long during the day can become exhausting. The heat seems to rise from every surface, and the sunlight quickly reminds you how strong the tropical climate can be.
Even so, Cubans are deeply connected to the beach.
No matter how intense the sun may be, people rarely miss an opportunity to enjoy the sea, the sand and the feeling of escape that the coast provides. Spending a day near the water is almost a natural instinct for many of us.
Last weekend seemed perfect for that.
The weather was clear, the morning was bright, and there was a calm atmosphere that invited rest from the very beginning of the day. As soon as I arrived at the beach, I looked for a beach lounger where I could lie down for a while and simply relax.
But before even sitting, something caught my attention.
It was the shadow projected by the lounger onto the sand.
It was still early in the morning, barely around eight o’clock, yet the sun was already rising with remarkable strength. The angle of the light stretched the shape of the lounger across the sand, clearly outlining its structure and creating a dark silhouette beside it.
The scene felt simple, but very representative of the moment.
The sand was still relatively untouched, the beach was quiet, and the shadow seemed to announce the kind of day that was beginning — one full of sunlight, heat and the familiar energy of the sea.
I paused for a moment to observe how the shadow elongated over the surface.
The lines of the lounger appeared more pronounced in the sand than in reality itself, almost as if the sunlight wanted to emphasize its presence before the beach filled with people later in the day.
There was something peaceful about that early morning contrast between the bright light and the dark shape projected on the ground.
That is why I decided to photograph it.
Because sometimes even the shadow of a simple beach lounger can capture the feeling of an entire morning by the sea.

La sombra de una tumbona junto al mar

Esta es mi entrada para el concurso ShadowHunters SMASh número 426.
En estos días el sol en Cuba se siente especialmente fuerte. Ni siquiera ha llegado oficialmente el verano y aun así permanecer mucho tiempo en la calle puede resultar agotador. El calor parece salir de todas las superficies y la luz del sol recuerda rápidamente lo intenso que puede ser el clima tropical.
Aun así, el cubano tiene una conexión muy especial con la playa.
Por mucho que el sol golpee o incluso termine afectando la salud, casi nadie deja pasar la oportunidad de disfrutar del mar, la arena y esa sensación de libertad que ofrece la costa. Pasar un día cerca del agua es casi un impulso natural para muchos de nosotros.
El fin de semana pasado parecía perfecto para eso.
El clima estaba despejado, la mañana luminosa y el ambiente transmitía tranquilidad desde muy temprano. Apenas llegué a la playa busqué una tumbona donde pudiera recostarme un rato y descansar.
Pero antes incluso de sentarme, algo llamó mi atención.
Era la sombra que la tumbona proyectaba sobre la arena.
Todavía era temprano, apenas alrededor de las ocho de la mañana, y aun así el sol ya se levantaba con mucha fuerza. El ángulo de la luz alargaba la forma de la tumbona sobre la arena, marcando claramente su estructura y creando una silueta oscura junto a ella.
La escena era sencilla, pero muy representativa de ese momento.
La arena todavía estaba poco marcada, la playa permanecía tranquila y aquella sombra parecía anunciar el tipo de día que comenzaba: uno lleno de sol, calor y esa energía tan característica del mar.
Me detuve un instante a observar cómo la sombra se extendía sobre la superficie.
Las líneas de la tumbona parecían más pronunciadas en la arena que en la propia realidad, como si la luz quisiera remarcar su presencia antes de que la playa se llenara de personas más tarde.
Había algo muy sereno en ese contraste entre la luz intensa de la mañana y la forma oscura proyectada sobre el suelo.
Tal vez por eso decidí fotografiarla.
Porque a veces incluso la sombra de una simple tumbona puede capturar la sensación completa de una mañana junto al mar.
