Hello dear #ShadowHunters community,

This is my entry for the ShadowHunters SMASh contest number 423.

Sometimes a simple walk through the street is enough to find something worth observing.

On this occasion, what caught my attention was a plant that is very common in Cuba, often known as “flor de papel.” Its delicate appearance and light texture make it stand out, even among other plants. In this case, its flowers were white, although they can be found in many different colors.

While walking, I noticed not only the plant itself, but the shadow it projected onto the sidewalk.

The sunlight was strong enough to clearly define the shapes of its branches and leaves. The flowers, with their soft and slightly irregular forms, appeared as part of the shadow, creating a composition that felt both detailed and light at the same time.

The sidewalk became a quiet surface where everything was drawn.

The branches extended outward, and their shadows followed them, spreading across the ground in a natural and unforced way. There was a certain harmony in how the elements came together — the plant above, the shadow below, and the light connecting both.

What made the scene interesting was its simplicity.

There was nothing extraordinary about the place. Just a common street, a plant growing nearby, and the sunlight doing its work. Yet, in that moment, everything aligned to create a small visual composition worth noticing.

I paused for a moment to observe it more carefully.

Sometimes we walk without looking down, without paying attention to the ground we step on. But it is often there where shadows reveal details that would otherwise go unnoticed.

That is why I decided to photograph it.

Because in that simple stretch of sidewalk, the bougainvillea transformed light into a quiet drawing made of branches, flowers… and shadow.

Sombras de bugambilia sobre la acera

Hola querida comunidad de #ShadowHunters,

Esta es mi entrada para el concurso ShadowHunters SMASh número 423.

A veces basta con caminar por la calle para encontrar algo digno de observar.

En esta ocasión lo que llamó mi atención fue una planta muy común en Cuba, conocida como flor de papel. Su apariencia delicada y su textura ligera la hacen destacar incluso entre otras plantas. En este caso, sus flores eran de color blanco, aunque pueden encontrarse en muchos otros colores.

Mientras caminaba, no solo me fijé en la planta en sí, sino en la sombra que proyectaba sobre la acera.

La luz del sol era lo suficientemente intensa como para definir con claridad las formas de sus ramas y hojas. Las flores, con sus formas suaves y algo irregulares, aparecían también en la sombra, creando una composición que resultaba detallada y ligera al mismo tiempo.

La acera se convertía en una superficie tranquila donde todo quedaba dibujado.

Las ramas se extendían hacia afuera y sus sombras las seguían, expandiéndose sobre el suelo de forma natural. Había cierta armonía en la forma en que todos los elementos se unían: la planta arriba, la sombra abajo y la luz conectando ambos.

Lo que hacía interesante la escena era su sencillez.

No había nada extraordinario en el lugar. Solo una calle común, una planta creciendo cerca y la luz haciendo su trabajo. Sin embargo, en ese momento todo parecía alinearse para crear una pequeña composición visual digna de observar.

Me detuve un instante a mirarlo con más atención.

Muchas veces caminamos sin mirar al suelo, sin prestar atención a la superficie que pisamos. Pero es ahí donde, con frecuencia, las sombras revelan detalles que de otra forma pasarían desapercibidos.

Tal vez por eso decidí fotografiarla.

Porque en ese tramo sencillo de acera, la bugambilia convirtió la luz en un dibujo silencioso hecho de ramas, flores… y sombra.
