Rock Art, Ancient and Not-So-Old | PhotoFeed Contest - Landscape Photography Round 140
Last Sunday, my wife and I climbed Mount Sedlovataya 2 to see ancient rock paintings. The first photo shows the view from a crevice on the mountainside, not far from the summit.
The ancient rock carvings are located on the second-highest level, which also offers a good view of the valley and the surrounding mountains.
Scientists attribute the rock paintings on Mount Sedlovataya 2 to different historical periods. For example, these figures date back to the turn of the Common Era and were created by representatives of the Tashtyk archaeological culture.
This deer is more ancient and scientists date it to the 5th - 7th centuries BC. This piece of rock art was created by an artist of the Tagar archaeological culture.
This elk is even more ancient and scientists attribute it to the Okunev archaeological culture of the late 3rd – early 2nd millennium BC.
While walking in the surrounding mountains, I love finding boulders that resemble the heads of fantastic monsters, like these.
In addition to ancient rock carvings, there are also recent inscriptions. For example, these inscriptions were made by modern vandals just 80 years ago
The mountain's summit is crowned by a small stone pyramid. According to Khakass legend, mountain spirits live in such stone pyramids.
