Feathered Friends - Show Me A Photo Contest Round 105: Chicks in the mailbox

avatar

Hello, friends. Today I want to tell you a story that has been going on with an old mailbox for three years.

Starting in 2020, twice a summer, tits build a nest, hatch and feed their chicks in an old mailbox.

Birds line the bottom of the mailbox with moss, although it's two kilometers to the nearest forest, and then the moss litter is covered with dog hair, fortunately, there are a lot of dogs around.

Then comes the exciting process of laying eggs and hatching chicks. Apparently, the tits appreciated the mailbox for its inaccessibility to predators, reliable protection from rain and wind.

In the photos I presented, the chickens are almost adults, and the next day after the photoshoot, the mailbox was empty. I hope that next summer the tits will use it again to raise chickens.

Incredible birds, how clever to utilize the mailbox.
I was surprised to find the great tits having nests in lamp posts. But obviously it suits them well.
