Hola, HIVE. Me llamo Iran Capote (Pinar del Río, 1990) Soy dramaturgo, guionista y director de teatro. Nací en un barrio rural de San Juan y Martínez, allá donde el Diablo dio las cuatro o cinco voces y nadie le escuchó. Aun sin entender qué cosa era el arte, me fui un día hasta la ciudad a estudiar actuación y nunca regresé a ese sitio. No por desamor.

Hello, HIVE. My name is Iran Capote (Pinar del Río, 1990). I am a playwright, screenwriter and theater director. I was born in a rural neighborhood of San Juan y Martínez, where the Devil gave four or five voices and nobody listened to him. Even without understanding what art was, one day I went to the city to study acting and I never returned to that place. Not for lack of love.

Considero aquel pedazo de mundo como mi casa. Aunque la visite con poca frecuencia, ninguna ciudad ha logrado arrebatarme ese rincón de la tierra que apenas puedo localizar en Google Map. Pero para ser artista en este siglo, vivir al margen de las ciudades sería la más desfavorecida de las opciones.

I consider that piece of the world as my home. Although I visit it infrequently, no city has been able to take away from me that corner of the earth that I can barely locate on Google Map. But to be an artist in this century, living on the fringes of cities would be the most disadvantaged of options.

Pueden decirme con toda confianza que soy un “guajiro urbanizado”. He publicado libros en Cuba, España y Estados Unidos. Escribir se vuelve una obsesión casi maldita. Al menos, para mí, que ya no logro vivir sin tener que llevar cada instante a la página en blanco. Aunque parezca increíble, la escritura, los libros, las publicaciones, el teatro, además de ser el centro de cada uno de mis días, sigue siendo un oficio miserable del que un cubano enraizado en la isla no puede vivir.

You can confidently tell me that I am an "urbanized guajiro". I have published books in Cuba, Spain and the United States. Writing has become an almost cursed obsession. At least, for me, who can no longer live without having to take every moment to the blank page. Incredible as it may seem, writing, books, publications, theater, besides being the center of each of my days, continues to be a miserable profession from which a Cuban rooted in the island cannot live.

Me gusta el reto de dedicarme a ello por completo y vivir humildemente. En unos días estaré cumpliendo 33 años. Y aunque en la charada es “tiñosa”, he depositado toda la fe en que este año será muy bueno para mi vida en todos los planos. Sí, soy un hombre de fe. No practico religión alguna, las respeto todas y creo en la energía del Universo y en el karma.

I like the challenge of dedicating myself completely to it and living humbly. In a few days I will be 33 years old. And although in charade it is "tiñosa", I have placed all my faith that this year will be very good for my life on all levels. Yes, I am a man of faith. I do not practice any religion, I respect them all and I believe in the energy of the Universe and in karma.

Tengo sueños, como todo el mundo. Quiero publicar un Best Seller, estrenar una obra en Brodway y ganarme el Óscar al mejor guion. Una vez alguien me dijo que si de soñar se trata, más vale hacerlo en grande. Y ahí estoy, soñando con una carrera sin moverme de Cuba, porque tengo pánico de los aviones y porque, aunque ya he tenido problemas con el sistema comunista por mi eterna incormidad a “su proceso”, creo que no hay lugar que logre hacerme más feliz que mi propio país.

I have dreams, like everyone else. I want to publish a Best Seller, premiere a play on Broadway and win the Oscar for best screenplay. Someone once told me that if it's about dreaming, it's better to dream big. And there I am, dreaming of a career without leaving Cuba, because I'm terrified of airplanes and because, although I've already had problems with the communist system for my eternal discomfort with "their process", I believe that there is no place that can make me happier than my own country.

Tengo un novio, una novia, un perro y un gato, un montón de amigos, colecciono máquinas de escribir, libros extraños, discos de vinilo, una colección de madrugadas y me gusta todo lo relacionado con extraterrestres, ovnis e historias de Serial Killer. Hablo poco, escribo mucho. Mi gasolina es el café y el cigarro (y no me den la vieja trova sobre el daño que hace el tabaco.

I have a boyfriend, a girlfriend, a dog and a cat, a lot of friends, I collect typewriters, strange books, vinyl records, a collection of early mornings and I like everything related to aliens, UFOs and Serial Killer stories. I talk little, write a lot. My fuel is coffee and cigarettes (and don't give me the old trope about the harm smoking does.

Lo sé, lo sé y agradezco sus consejos, pero prefiero correr el riesgo si me hace feliz :). Tengo un hermano gemelo del que seguro hablaré más adelante. Y también tengo un Máster en tolerancia. La vida me ha enseñado a respetar cada una de las diferencias. Si quisieran definirme, pueden decir que soy un tipo que prefiere ponerle energía positiva a cada situación de la vida y amo poder ayudar a los que me necesiten. Siempre estoy feliz y beso a todos en la frente como signo de confianza.

I know, I know and I appreciate your advice, but I'd rather take the risk if it makes me happy :). I have a twin brother that I'm sure I'll talk about later. And I also have a Master's degree in tolerance. Life has taught me to respect every single difference. If you wanted to define me, you can say that I'm a guy who prefers to put positive energy to every situation in life and I love to be able to help those who need me. I am always happy and kiss everyone on the forehead as a sign of trust.

Espero leerlos y que me lean, ustedes son el alivio. Estoy interesado en escribir en HIVE sobre diferentes temas. No se asusten, nada de densidades ni abstracciones. Me encanta reseñar mi vida, desde cómo me las arreglo para que mi novia y mi novio no coexistan en el mismo espacio, hasta cómo se prepara con dignidad una olla de chícharos de verdes con tres dientes de ajo y una hoja de cilantro.

I'm usually very humble when it comes to talking about my work. I do it only because the platform asked me to.
Months ago a friend told me about HIVE, she told me so much that I could barely understand the first steps. Until by one of those fortuitous coincidences Yanerkis @yanerkidiaz appeared and put me in the patient hands of CHINO @eduardo900613.

I look forward to reading you and being read, you are the relief. I am interested in writing in HIVE on different topics. Don't be scared, no densities or abstractions. I love to review my life, from how I manage to keep my girlfriend and boyfriend from coexisting in the same space, to how to prepare with dignity a pot of green peas with three cloves of garlic and a cilantro leaf.

Habrá de todo en la viña de este señor (cotidianidad, erotismo, literatura, ingenio del cubano, pinareñadas, reseñas de viaje y hasta cursilerías románticas…) A fin de cuentas, todos no somos más que los protagonistas de una gran novela, la más importante que se haya escrito nunca.
