Visit of the castle of La Roche-Guyon (Part 1)

We find ourselves in the loops of the Seine (in Ile-de-France) at La Roche-Guyon to visit its famous castle, which has been nestled against a limestone cliff since the Middle Ages.
This castle (classified as a historical monument) holds a strategic position that has been a major defensive asset throughout its history.
During the last World War, the owner of the castle, the Duke of La Rochefoucauld, and his family helped the Resistance by providing a refuge for fighters and contributing to covert operations.
Lastly, I will not fail to mention its remarkable garden (located between the castle and the Seine), which, in addition to the formal French garden, also includes a terraced vegetable garden, adding to the picturesque charm of the entire estate.

Nous voici dans les boucles de la Seine (en Ile-de-France) à La Roche-Guyon pour visiter son célèbre château adossé, depuis le Moyen-Âge, à une falaise calcaire.
Ce château (classé monument historique) occupe un emplacement stratégique qui a été un atout défensif majeur tout au long de son histoire.
Durant la dernière Guerre Mondiale, le propriétaire du château, le duc de La Rochefoucauld, et sa famille ont aidé la Résistance en fournissant un lieu de refuge aux combattants et en contribuant à des opérations clandestines.
Enfin, je ne manquerai pas d'évoquer son jardin remarquable (situé entre le château et la Seine) qui, outre le jardin à la française, possède également un jardin potager en terrasses, ce qui ajoute à l'attrait pittoresque de l'ensemble du domaine.

Oui, encore un village qui vaut le déplacement. C'est vraiment très agréable et cela nous a donné, enfin, l'occasion d'aller à Giverny dans les jardins extraordinaires de Claude Monet.
