Roses and its citadel (Part 6)

On the shore and at the mouth of the port, crowning the peaks, several watchtowers once stood, and to the west, perched on a hill, a monastery dominated the landscape. The dark walls of its Romanesque church, divided into three naves, along with the towers and ramparts, made it a fortress.

The monastery and the medieval village were initially sparsely inhabited in the 11th century. They developed in the 12th century and later expanded further in the 13th century.

Sur le rivage et à l'embouchure du port, couronnant les sommets, se dressaient autrefois plusieurs tours de guet et, à l'ouest, posé sur une colline, un monastère dominait le paysage. Les murs sombres de son église romane divisée en trois nefs, les tours, et les courtines, en faisaient une forteresse.

Le Monastère et le village médiéval, ont d'abord été au XI^ème siècle un lieu peu habité , qui s'est développé au XII^ème siècle et plus tard au XIII^ème siècle.
