Fontevraud: a journey through time (Part 1)

Being in the area, we’re taking the opportunity to visit Fontevraud and its famous Royal Abbey. First things first, it’s worth knowing that the village is a well-preserved medieval site, with cobbled streets, tuffeau stone houses (the local white stone), and a peaceful atmosphere.

It’s part of the "Petites Cités de Caractère," a label recognizing villages with outstanding architectural heritage.

With this background in mind, we’re ready to explore the famous abbey, a true historic gem at the heart of the village.

Etant dans la région, nous en profitons pour venir à Fontevraud visiter sa célèbre abbaye Royale. Avant toute chose, il convient de savoir que c’est un village médiéval très bien conservé, avec des ruelles pavées, des maisons en tuffeau (la pierre blanche locale) et une ambiance tranquille.

Il fait partie des "Petites Cités de Caractère", un label qui distingue les villages avec un patrimoine architectural remarquable.

Nantis de ces premières informations, nous allons pouvoir visiter la célèbre abbaye, véritable joyau historique au cœur du village.
