Cluny... here we are (Part 4)

We spend a long time in the Jean de Bourbon chapel, captivated as much by the richness of its flamboyant Gothic architecture as by the polychrome busts decorating its walls. You can recognize the twelve apostles, but also Saint John the Baptist, Saint Paul, and the Virgin Mary, all framed by finely carved scrolls.

Visitors face a little challenge: to decipher the Gothic inscriptions on each band to piece together the text of the prophetic creed. We gave it a try... but ended up giving up, still enjoying the beauty of the mystery.

Nous passons un long moment dans la chapelle Jean de Bourbon, captivés autant par la richesse de son architecture gothique flamboyante que par les bustes polychromes qui ornent ses murs. On y reconnaît les douze apôtres, mais aussi saint Jean-Baptiste, saint Paul et la Vierge Marie, tous encadrés de phylactères finement sculptés.

Un petit défi s’offre aux visiteurs : déchiffrer les inscriptions gothiques sur chaque bandeau afin de reconstituer le texte du credo prophétique. Nous nous y sommes essayés… mais avons fini par abandonner, non sans plaisir devant la beauté du mystère.
