A trip to Ménilmontant (Part 1)

Here is one of the most typical neighborhoods of Paris: Ménilmontant. Its name comes from the fact that originally it was a hamlet formed around a "mesnil" (a rural dwelling) called the "mauvais temps" (bad weather).
Since the weather there probably wasn't any gloomier than elsewhere, after all, and the path to get there was dry, in the 16th century "Mesnil Mautemps" conveniently became "Ménilmontant."
There you have it, now you know everything...

Voici un des quartiers les plus typiques de Paris : Ménilmontant. Son nom provient du fait, qu'à l'origine, il s'agissait d'un hameau formé autour d'un "mesnil" (demeure rurale) dit du "mauvais temps".
Comme la météo ne devait pas y être plus maussade qu'ailleurs, après tout, et que le chemin pour s'y rendre montait sec, le "Mesnil Mautemps" est opportunément devenu au XVI^èmesiècle "Ménilmontant".
