" A Paradise You Need to Know " : Sumilon Island Cebu Philipphines | #lakwatsaniIntoy Diary 066
Have you been to Cebu, Philippines? If not yet, this place I will share with you might entice you to visit Cebu Island.
Hello my fellow Lakwatsero (traveler) in Hive, How are you, Hoping you are doing well wherever you are now. It's been a while since I published my travel journey on this platform, Our life has been occupied lately especially when you are in the corporate world. A lot of deadlines and submissions when the last quarter of the year has come. Anyways, Enough for the work story, Let's focus now on this Paradise that Im thrilled to share with you.
This Is Sumilon Island!
Look how beautiful it is, from the pristine beach, white sand bar, green trees on the Island, and the crystal clear water, It is truly a paradise. I was in awe when were approaching the island, I couldn't contempt the excitement of feeling the sand and diving into this enticing seawater as soon as possible. What I mean who else doesn't feel excited when seeing this, right?
It was Last December 2024 when I experienced this moment together with my other colleagues. It happens that our Year End Party was held in Cebu Island. It was Exciting news when we heard it and we will fly from Manila to Cebu for the Event. It is just a one-day event and after that, we planned to extend our stay on the Island and explore the wonders of Cebu, This Island is one of the places we've visited.
Its name is spreading not only in the Island but all around the country. Its natural beauty and resources around are talked of every tourist that visited the island. It is one of the recommendable tourist spots in Cebu that why we chose to visit it. This is one of the tourist spots in Cebu that you should experience. I tell you it is worth visiting.
Activities you can Experience!
You can do a lot of activities here, like what we did, we love deepening in this Crystal clear water, we never expected the coldness of the water and you will like it. You will also love to explore its seabed, You will witness the beautiful corals and the colorful sea creatures around the Island. You can do Scuba diving and Snorkeling.
You can also explore the whole Island by riding a kayak, for sure you with your friends love this, or you can chill on the side, sit down on the sand, and feel the wonderful creature of God. This view is indeed a stress-free. We are glad we've visited this Island.
If you plan for overnight on the Island, there is Bluewater Sumilon Island Resort that is ready to accommodate you. It is just a single resort on the Island. Primarily, the Island is private and the Bluewater Resort manages it. They just open some areas for day tours to attract more tourists, but you are just limited in specific areas and don't have access to every facility inside the resort. Unless you check in for a stay.
The Bluewater is a luxury resort, It is not within our budget, so what we did to save money, was we got accommodation on the mainland at Oslob and had a day tour. A lot of cheap Hotels and accommodations on the mainland, don't worry if you are like us that a small budget for a trip like this. A lot of tourists locals and internationals that we encounter in the Island actually choose to stay on the mainland to have a cheaper cost, but If you want to experience the Luxury stay in the Island, you can visit the link above for more information about the Resort.
Location
The island is located in the southeastern tip of Cebu Philippines, It is 125 km from Cebu City and suited in the Municipality of Oslob, It is an Offshore island, but don't worry It is just 15 minutes away from the docking area which is the Bancogon Port, Barangay Tan-awan, Oslob, Cebu. The area is the perfect place to explore because aside from the island, you can also experience the famous Whale Shark Watching in the Oslob which is only 10 minutes away from the Port. Aside from that, you will also find in the Oslob the Tumalog Falls which is 20 minutes away only from the Bancogon.
How to reach the Island?
From Cebu City, you can ride a bus going to Oslob Cebu at the South bus Terminal, you will travel approximately 3-4 hours depending on traffic conditions. The bus fare is only 4 dollars just tell the driver to drop you off at Bancogon Port in Barangay Tan-awan. Just inform them you will go to Sumilon Island and they know where to drop off. You can also rent a private vehicle and pin the location in the map to guide your way.
From there in the port, you will ride a boat, The whole ride back and forth is 28 dollars only, You can split the fare you are in the group. By the way, there is an environmental fee of 1$ each that will cross the Island. After 10-15 minutes you are now in the Paradise called Sumilon Island.
Travel Tip to Sumilon Island
- Start early, leave the city by 4 to 5 am to maximize your stay on the Island and to avoid traffic
- Book in Advance, and reserve your accommodation at an early time, especially in the peak season when a lot of tourists visit in the area
- Check the Weather, it is best to visit the island on the Summer season
- Bring Essentials, Sun protection, Extra clothes, towels, food, water, snacks, and money just in case of emergency spending.
- Respect the Environment, leave no trace of your carbon footprint, be mindful of the trash.
- Transportation, For me if you are in a group, it is advisable to rent a Van or a private vehicle for your comfort and convenience during travel, it is a long ride and the public transportation in the area is not easy.
