A visit to "Chittagong University Museum"

Visiting in a museum is a place where I visit rarely and the reason is there is no museum in my area as well as know. I can remember once I visited in museum in my childhood times and I can remember very few things about that visit.

Last Monday I went to my university museum for a visit. I visited there several times but I never shared about it because I didn't capture any photographs there. But this time I went there to capture pictures. So let's start sharing about the museum.

The Name of the museum is Chittagong University Museum and it is the only academic museum in my country. At the entrance, there is the nameplate and in-ground there is a boat which is the symbol of the current running party in our country.

IMG_20230509_105927.jpgIMG_20230509_110034.jpg

The name of the cannon is the SAR JANG cannon. It is a Medieval arms and armaments which is made of bronze and in the time of Shah Jahan that kind of weapon used in war.

IMG_20230509_110133.jpgIMG_20230509_110112.jpg

This is known as the Laat Shaheber chair. I don't know too much about Laat Shaheb but from my childhood, the name Laal Shaheb used to pitch others who were lazy and tried to act rich. It's a very common name in my county. I am guessing that that person might be a very rich and very lazy person. It's just a guess😉,

There were some black and white paintings on the wall which tried to indicate about the incident before 1971 means before the liberation war of our country. Those paintings give some message through meme-type painting.

IMG_20230509_110932.jpgIMG_20230509_110922.jpg

There exists a little library that looks decent and most of the books are related to history and there are facilities to read books there. Honestly, I liked it very much. I noticed there are some books which are nearly impossible to find in other places.

IMG_20230509_111245.jpg

It's a brown color fossilized wood and it was a fossil wood of 20k-30k (approximately) years ago. Can you imagine 20k-30k years? It's a huge time. At the first time, I thought it was a normal one but I was surprised to know about it.

IMG_20230509_111324.jpgIMG_20230509_111333.jpg

Reaching the first floor there was the diagram of the Meusuem Gallery and on the opposite side, there was a map of our university. By the way my university is the largest university of my country.

image.pngimage.png
image.pngimage.png

There was 4 painting was looked very realistic in my eyes and all of it was beautiful. I wasn't able to know who drew those pictures. I think the painter tried to show about the ancient lifestyle of humans and wildlife. I could not guess more than that.

image.png

Fish fossil is a thing which caught my attention easily and as a student of the fisheries department, it's natural. Obviously, I want ot know more about fish fossil but there was very little information about it.

IMG_20230509_112012.jpgimage.pngimage.png

I was always interested in Terracotta because in childhood times I heard about it many times but got few opportunities to watch it. It was very popular in the past days but with the developing world terracotta art almost disappeared.

There are various kinds of gods according to the religion of Hinduism and all of those gods do their task. To be honest, as a Muslim, I knew very little about it and I think I should not say many things about it because I don't want to take risk in this case because it's a sensitive issue and I have very little knowledge. There were various types of statues of gods and goddesses.

image.pngimage.png

I found two cute and beautiful statues and both caught my attention. In the first one, it seems two couples were riding one camel and going somewhere. and in the second picture, It seems one princess is going somewhere riding on a horse.

IMG_20230509_113431.jpgIMG_20230509_113426.jpg

The Holy Quran is the most precious book for Muslims and here you can see some ancient Quran books.

image.pngimage.pngimage.png
image.pngimage.pngimage.png

Here you can see all some ancient currently which were popular in the history of Muslims and few current was only available there and I didn't miss the opportunity to click some shots.

image.pngimage.pngIMG_20230509_113521.jpg

IMG_20230509_113641.jpg

In ancient times war happened and it's natural that various kinds of weapons were used at that time. Here you can see some weapons and protection shells. Honestly, I don't like war. So naturally I didn't like those weapons.

IMG_20230509_113931.jpg

IMG_20230509_114216.jpg

Once upon a time Weaving industry was very popular and rich in our country but with time it's almost in the ending face and very few people are involved in this now. There are many reasons for it but I think it's a great loss for my county. I have seen such kind of machine in television only and I saw such kind of machine in this museum for the first time.

image.png

IMG_20230509_114003.jpg

Here you can see some instruments which people naturally used in the past but in the evolution of time, those things almost disappeared in the current time. Sorry for the bad image quality. Actually electrical was gone at that time and those things were in a glass-protected showcase. By the way you can see my reflection also.😅

image.png

I hope you know what is it. It's a television. In recent days people have been using smart televisions and such kind of television is also in the ending phase. Once my family has such kind of tv but it's now working and it's still available in our village.

IMG_20230509_114050.jpg

There are some masks you can see here and it remind me of my childhood times and in that time I used to play with masks, especially at night time to scare others.

image.png

IMG_20230509_114101.jpg

There were some things which were made of clay and those looked beautiful. I loved to play with such kinds of toys when I was a child.
In the next picture, you can see some pieces of jewelry and honestly, I have almost no knowledge about it. But I think those are jewellery which was popular in the past time.

IMG_20230509_114122.jpg

Ocean is my love and a boat and ship are necessary to take a ride in the deep ocean and here you can see two boats and those are looking cute.

image.png

In the past time, after marriage the bride used to come to his husband's house to ride on a Palki and here you can see the Palki. The tradition of Palki disappeared before my birth because of the availability of vehicles. It was the first time I had seen Palki.

IMG_20230509_114209.jpg

It is an antique piece and at the current time, it is not available. Such a kind of music player was very common in the past but now ti become an antique piece. I have the desire to get such kind of thing but It think it's very difficult to find such kind of piece.

IMG_20230509_114311.jpg

These things are still available at the current time. Those are hand fans and in the time of hot weather people swing it to get air. But it still the use of it has been decreased a lot.

That's all for today and I really enjoyed the museum visit. I hope you also enjoyed reading with me.

All the pictures I used here are my own and personally captured by me and no edited photographs.

woah the building looks kinda old. It's cool though that it has all this stuff for you to see inside and that it's the only academic museum in your country. Was it free to go to this museum?

Outside appearance may give you old vibes but I think our current university VC is not so concerned about it. Otherwise, the outside appearance was good to look a few years ago.

Was it free to go to this museum?

Yes, it's free to visit and I can visit there anytime except holidays.

I really enjoyed the visit and whenever I get free time I visit there and each time I feel I am visiting it for the first time. It gave me some knowledge about our history, tradition, and culture. It gives me a feeling that I still have many things to know.
When I saw those paintings, I felt like those are realistic ones.

Indeed there are some cool exhibits. Besides I was also able to learn and see some things which I hadn't seen before. There were some more things but capturing pictures wasn't allowed otherwise I could show those things also.
Thank you for giving your precious time.

I love the paintings and designs at the museum. There are a lot of things to see when you enter one and you will also learn a lot from history. This is beautiful and I love the cannon too. I believe you had a great day exploring every area of the museum.

Please, I need you to vote for me. I am the third on the poll. Thank you

I think,I replied the comments earlier but somehow reply disappeared. Maybe because of internet issues of that day.
Indeed there are a lot of things to learn and see in a museum. I was able to know many things about history, culture and tradition by visiting there.

Wow this museum holds so many memories. I remember that black and white television plus the turn table music player popularly called Stereo Oh how I will always insert those big discs and stand to watch it turn several times before it clicks and start playing.
Thanks for sharing this

I think in the museum we have a good possibility to see antic things and I think black and white TV has already disappeared. If we want to know about the history, we need to go to museums and it will give us a lot of information.
