Trekking to Seceda in the Dolomites.

The Dolomites are mountains that attract like a magnet. The number of incredible sites in these mountains is phenomenal. One such destination, a must-see for many tourists visiting these majestic mountains, is Seceda. This peak, approximately 2,500 meters high, is part of the Odle group and the easiest to climb in the entire massif.

My wife and I visited Seceda during our trip to the Dolomites in 2022. Given that this peak is higher than any other Polish mountain range, we were certain the climb would be long and demanding. However, this wasn't the case. In many places in the Dolomites, driving to significant heights is possible, so conquering these more popular peaks isn't difficult at all. From what I remember, in this case, the journey from the parking lot to the summit took us about three hours. And those three hours were a hike, accompanied by truly spectacular views.

Dolomity to góry, które przyciągają jak magnes. Ilość niesamowitych miejsc w tych górach jest zjawiskowa. Jednym z takich punktów, który należy do obowiązkowych dla wielu turystów odwiedzających te majestatyczne góry jest Seceda. To szczyt o wysokości około 2500 będący częścią grupy Odle i najłatwiejszym szczytem do zdobycia w całym masywie.

Secede odwiedziłem z żoną podczas naszej podróży w Dolomity w roku 2022. Biorąc pod uwagę, że wysokość tego szczytu jest wyższa od wszystkich polskich gór, byliśmy pewni, że podejście będzie długie i wymagające. Tak jednak nie było. W Dolomitach w wielu miejscach samochodem można podjechać na znaczną wysokość, dlatego zdobywanie tych popularniejszych szczytów wcale nie jest trudne. Z tego co pamiętam w tym przypadku z parkingu na szczyt nasza droga zamknęła się w około trzech godzinach. I całe te trzy godziny to wędrówka, której towarzyszą naprawdę spektakularne widoki.

When visiting various locations, I often look for distinctive landscape features. Those that make a particular impression and clearly dominate the landscape. In this case, one such feature is the mighty Langkofel massif. It's the same majestic massif that can be seen from Alpe di Susi.. On our trail, we only lost sight of it for short stretches through the forest. You'll see it in the center of the frame in the photo above, and in several others throughout this post.

Odwiedzając różne miejsca bardzo często wyszukuję wyróżniających się elementów krajobrazu. Takich, które robią szczególne wrażenie i wyraźnie dominują krajobraz. W tym przypadku jednym z takich elementów jest potężny masyw Langkofel. To ten sam majestatyczny masyw, który można zobaczyć z Alpe di Susi.. Na naszym szlaku traciliśmy go z oczu jedynie w krótkich odcinkach przez las. Zobaczycie go na środku kadru na zdjęciu powyżej, oraz na kilku innych w tym poście.

The next photo shows the moment we leave the forest part of the hike. The mighty Odle group immediately comes into view. Seceda is somewhere on the left end of the massif visible on the horizon. From here, the whole thing is already impressive.

Na kolejnym zdjęciu widzimy moment opuszczenia leśnej partii wędrówki. Od razu ukazuje się nam potężna grupa Odle. Seceda znajduje się gdzieś na lewym końcu widocznego na horyzoncie masywu. Już stąd całość robi ogromne wrażenie.

The trail is very well-maintained, and its line was a truly remarkable element of composition for me. I used it to create depth in many of my shots.

Szlak jest bardzo dobrze przygotowany, a jego linia była dla mnie wręcz kapitalnym elementem kompozycji. W wielu zdjęciach wykorzystałem ją do budowania głębi w kadrze.

The undulating and uneven terrain surrounding us as we gained height was begging for photos. In fact, I went on a photography spree. The number of photos I brought back from this trip is enormous.

Pofałdowany i niejednorodny teren, który nas otaczał w trakcie zdobywania kolejnych metrów wysokości aż prosił się o robienie zdjęć. Prawdę mówiąc wpadłem w szał fotografowania. Ilość zdjęć jaką przywiozłem z tej wyprawy jest ogromna.

The higher we go, the more the Odle group reveals its vastness and power. From this point, it's already clear how formidable these peaks are.

Im wyżej, tym grupa Odle coraz bardziej ukazuje swój ogrom i potęgę. Z tego miejsca już widać, jak groźne są te szczyty.

This area is surrounded on all sides by mighty peaks and massifs. It's actually difficult to decide which direction to look. It's best to sit for a moment and contemplate these landscapes.

Teren ten z każdej strony otoczony jest przez potężne szczyty i masywy. Właściwie ciężko jest się zdecydować, w którą stronę skierować wzrok. Najlepiej usiąść na chwilę i przyglądnąć się w skupieniu tym krajobrazom.

There are also a lot of wooden buildings here, most of which are probably tourist attractions of some kind. However, I've never delved into this topic in any great detail.

Sporo tutaj także drewnianych budynków, które w większości są prawdopodobnie różnymi obiektami turystycznymi. W ten temat jednak nigdy się szczególnie nie zagłębiałem.

This architecture, combined with the rugged mountain landscape and vast meadows that cover the relatively flat slopes of this part of the massif, made a huge impression on me. However, I will show this in more detail in another post from the Seceda summit area. Those landscapes definitely deserve their own.

I decided to show these landscapes in black and white for a specific reason. I've been thinking a lot about my photography over the past few days. Photos taken in harsh daylight have never been my favorite, and I rarely post them. Truth be told, I mostly use them on Hive for travel-related posts. However, something has changed in my approach. In black and white, even in such unfavorable, harsh lighting, the situation looks completely different. I no longer feel that light is more harmful than helpful. I'd even go so far as to say that in photos without color, harsh light is an asset, creating the drama that black and white brings out in even the simplest of frames.

Zdecydowałem się na pokazanie tych krajobrazów w czerni i bieli z konkretnego powodu. Sporo myślałem przez ostatnie kilka dni nad moją fotografią. Zdjęcia zrobione w ostrym świetle dziennym nigdy nie należały do moich ulubionych i rzadko je publikuję. Prawdę mówiąc głównie na Hive do postów typowo podróżniczych. Coś jednak zmieniło się w moim podejściu. W czerni i bieli, nawet w tak niekorzystnym ostrym oświetleniu sytuacja wygląda całkowicie inaczej. Nie odnoszę już wrażenia, że światło bardziej szkodzi niż pomaga. Powiem nawet, że przy zdjęciach pozbawionych koloru, ostre światło jest atutem budującym dramaturgię, którą czerń i biel wydobywa z nawet najprostszych kadrów.
