Street Photography In Venice
Hello Black And White Comunity!
I once again immersed myself in my photos from Venice. My last trip to Italy was exceptionally rich in this kind of photographic discovery. I don’t often find myself dedicating so much time to street photography, and I’m not a specialist in this field either. To be honest, I’ve never formally educated myself in it beyond simply looking at the work of other photographers and reading David DuChemin’s “Soul of the Camera.” It was this book that once inspired me to try my hand at this field, and it is thanks to it that I create this kind of photography in my travels at all.. Even so, I’m quite satisfied with the street photographs I brought back from this trip.

Today’s set will be quite extensive in terms of the number of photos. I’m slowly starting to feel overwhelmed by how many images are still untouched on my hard drive, so I want to spend more time on editing and reduce that backlog.

The heavier the tourist traffic, the more interesting opportunities emerge. Street photography is probably the only genre where an excess of tourists doesn’t bother me at all — on the contrary, it actually works to my advantage.

In street photography, I particularly enjoy juxtaposing people with architecture. Images like these say far more about the place they were taken in than streets or buildings alone.

In Venice, I was especially drawn to scenes where I managed to capture people against the backdrop of old townhouses.

There was no shortage of photos with a musical accent as well. One of the most interesting moments of exploring Venice for me was encountering a woman playing music on glass goblets. It was an exceptionally unique and original display of musical skill!

This is one of my favorite images from the series. The scene was highly contrasty, and during post-processing it was difficult to bring out all the details. In the end, I decided to leave a large part of the frame in deep shadow.

“Run as if your life depended on it!” — if I weren’t a rather quiet and shy person, that’s exactly how I would have been cheering on the runners taking part in the marathon held in Venice that day.

To finish off, a touch of street abstraction. In some moments, I deliberately extended the exposure time to preserve motion blur and give the images a more dynamic feel.
