Una condición que había hecho que ese riñón dejara de funcionar. Casos como este son comunes, pero lamentablemente, no siempre contamos con los recursos para realizar la cirugía que necesitan. En este caso, era necesario extraerle ese riñón dañado, y hasta hoy, en casi cinco años como especialista, nunca había tenido la oportunidad de participar en una cirugía de este tipo.

Desde el momento en que se programó, no podía evitar sentir emoción. Mis dos compañeros más experimentados, quienes han sido mi guía desde que llegué, ya están próximos a jubilarse, así que para mí era una oportunidad invaluable para aprender, porque los niños que atendemos merecen lo mejor de nosotros.

Hoy me levanté con una mezcla de entusiasmo y nervios. Sentía el peso de la responsabilidad, pero también una profunda alegría por estar presente. Lo que hizo este día aún más especial fue que mi compañera, quien está de licencia de maternidad, pudo unirse a la cirugía. Fue un esfuerzo colectivo lleno de concentración, cuidado y trabajo en equipo.

Y logramos nuestro objetivo. La cirugía fue un éxito. El niño ahora tiene una oportunidad para vivir con más calidad, sin complicaciones futuras, y eso es lo más importante.

Hoy no solo aprendí más sobre mi profesión; también reafirmé por qué estoy aquí. Por estos pequeños, por sus sonrisas y por darles esperanza. Días como este me hacen recordar que, a pesar de las limitaciones y los momentos difíciles, mi trabajo tiene un propósito profundo. Y eso es lo que me impulsa a seguir adelante.

Since last week we had a child with a malformation in his left kidney. His diagnosis: congenital hydronephrosis. A condition that had caused that kidney to stop working. Cases like this are common, but unfortunately, we do not always have the resources to perform the surgery they need. In this case, it was necessary to remove that damaged kidney, and until today, in almost five years as a specialist, I had never had the opportunity to participate in a surgery of this type.

From the moment it was scheduled, I could not help but feel excited. My two most experienced colleagues, who have been my guide since I arrived, are now close to retirement, so for me it was an invaluable opportunity to learn, because the children we take care of deserve the best from us.

Today I woke up with a mixture of excitement and nerves. I felt the weight of responsibility, but also a deep joy to be present. What made this day even more special was that my partner, who is on maternity leave, was able to join the surgery. It was a collective effort full of focus, care and teamwork.

And we achieved our goal. The surgery was a success. The child now has a chance to live with more quality, without future complications, and that is the most important thing.

Today I not only learned more about my profession; I also reaffirmed why I am here. For these little ones, for their smiles and for giving them hope. Days like this remind me that, despite the limitations and difficult moments, my work has a deep purpose. And that is what drives me forward.
