Mientras esperaba, comencé a mirar alrededor y a hacer preguntas, como quien no quiere que le cuenten una historia, sino sentirla. Una de las trabajadoras me habló del café con orgullo, como si fuera algo vivo. Y es que Tres Lucías no es solo un nombre bonito: es un homenaje directo a la película cubana Lucía, de Humberto Solás, donde tres mujeres, todas llamadas Lucías, representan distintas etapas de nuestra historia. “Por eso este siempre fue un sitio de artistas”, me dijeron, “aquí se hablaba de cine, de cultura, de ideas”.

This time I was craving a good cup of coffee and, above all, I wanted to step into a different place. So when I saw Café Tres Lucías, I didn’t hesitate. I went in.
I sat down and, almost without realizing it, a gentle nostalgia came over me. It had been ten years, maybe more, since I last visited this place. In my memory, it was still that popular café among students and artists, with affordable prices and a calm atmosphere—perfect for studying, chatting, or simply spending time with friends without rushing.

While I waited, I started looking around and asking questions, not really wanting to be told a story, but to feel it. One of the workers spoke about the café with pride, as if it were something alive. And Tres Lucías is not just a pretty name: it’s a direct tribute to the Cuban film Lucía, by Humberto Solás, where three women, each named Lucía, represent different stages of our history. “That’s why this was always a place for artists,” they told me. “People talked about cinema, culture, ideas here.”

They also told me that the most recent renovation was completed not long ago. It was a long process, but a necessary one, meant to restore the space without losing its essence. Even so, I had a very pleasant time. I enjoyed coming back, sitting there, looking around, remembering. It’s true that it’s no longer an affordable café like it was years ago, but it’s also fair to say that the quality of the coffee and the offerings have improved a lot.

I left Tres Lucías with an empty cup and a slightly fuller spirit. And sometimes, that’s all one really needs: a good coffee, a place with history, and a few minutes to breathe in the middle of the day.
