Este sábado tenía ganas de salir de la rutina con una pequeña aventura: al fin conocer el cayo Bariay, ese lugar que me tiene intrigada desde hace tiempo. La idea era hacer algo tranquilo pero especial con mi mamá y mi hermano. Pero como suele pasar con los planes… a veces no salen. La reserva no se pudo concretar y, así de golpe, nos quedamos sin cayo.

Después del bajón inicial, me rehusé a quedarme con los brazos cruzados. Pasé buena parte de la mañana intentando convencer a mi mamá de que hiciéramos algo, cualquier cosa, con tal de no quedarnos todo el día encerrados viendo pasar las horas. A ella no le encantan las piscinas, pero con algo de paciencia —y muchas ganas de no desperdiciar el sábado—, logré un “bueno, vamos” que me supo a gloria.

Así que improvisamos: armamos el almuerzo en casa, metimos todo en una mochila y pusimos rumbo al Hotel Pernik, que tiene una piscina que siempre me ha gustado. No es cara, es cómoda y, sobre todo, tiene ese aire relajado de los lugares donde uno no necesita más que dejarse llevar.

La piscina estaba llena, sí, pero con una energía bonita: niños chapoteando, gente riendo, música suave de fondo… Yo, feliz. Siempre me ha encantado el olor a cloro, el calor del sol en la piel, esa sensación de estar dentro del agua como si el tiempo se detuviera. Me sentí como una niña otra vez, sin ganas de salir, solo queriendo nadar y reír.

Y por si fuera poco, llegó la sorpresa del día: ¡fiesta de espuma! No lo sabíamos, pero los fines de semana hacen un pequeño show y de pronto la música subió, la espuma empezó a caer y todo se volvió un caos alegre. Bailamos, nos empapamos, reímos tanto que por un rato el mundo pareció más ligero.

No fue el plan original, pero fue perfecto a su manera. A veces lo que no planeamos resulta ser justo lo que necesitábamos. Y este sábado, entre risas, agua y sol, fue uno de esos días que se quedan guardados en la memoria con una sonrisa.

This Saturday, I felt the urge to break out of the routine with a little adventure: finally visiting Cayo Bariay, a place that’s intrigued me for quite a while. The idea was to enjoy a simple but special day with my mom and my brother. But, as it often happens with plans… sometimes they just fall through. The reservation couldn’t be completed, and just like that, our trip to the cayo was off.

After the initial disappointment, I refused to just sit around. I spent most of the morning trying to convince my mom to do something—anything—so we wouldn’t end up stuck at home all day watching the hours go by. She’s not exactly a fan of swimming pools, but with a little patience—and a strong desire to save the day—I managed to get a “fine, let’s go” that felt like a small victory.

So we improvised: packed lunch at home, threw everything into a backpack, and headed to Hotel Pernik, which has a pool I’ve always liked. It’s affordable, comfortable, and has that relaxed vibe where you don’t need much else but to just go with the flow.

Yes, the pool was full, but the energy was lovely: kids splashing around, people laughing, soft music playing in the background… I was in my happy place. I’ve always loved the smell of chlorine, the warmth of the sun on my skin, and that feeling of being in the water like time stands still. I felt like a little girl again, not wanting to get out, just swimming and laughing endlessly.

And then came the best surprise of the day: a foam party! We had no idea, but it turns out they do a small show on weekends. Suddenly, the music got louder, foam started falling everywhere, and the place turned into a joyful mess. We danced, got soaked, laughed so hard that for a while, the world felt lighter.

It wasn’t the original plan, but in its own way, it was perfect. Sometimes, the unplanned moments turn out to be exactly what we need. And this Saturday, filled with laughter, water, and sunshine, became one of those days you carry in your heart with a smile.
