El domingo pasado, antes de llegar al Acuario de Santiago de Cuba, hicimos una parada rápida pero muy especial: el Valle de la Prehistoria. Aunque solo estuvimos allí unos escasos minutos, fue uno de esos momentos que se quedan grabados en el corazón.

Apenas el ómnibus se detuvo, bajé casi corriendo. La emoción me ganó por completo. Recordaba haber estado allí de niña, y volver tantos años después fue como abrir un cofre lleno de recuerdos. La nostalgia me acompañó en cada paso mientras recorría casi todo el lugar en tiempo récord, celular en mano y con la sonrisa de quien vuelve a un sitio que nunca dejó del todo.

Este peculiar valle está ubicado dentro del Parque Baconao, en Santiago de Cuba, y fue inaugurado en 1980. Es un lugar único, lleno de esculturas gigantes de cemento que representan dinosaurios, mamuts, tigres dientes de sable, humanos primitivos y otros seres de la prehistoria. Las figuras, aunque hechas con técnicas sencillas, tienen un encanto muy particular, casi como sacadas de un sueño de infancia.

Lo más lindo fue ver la reacción de los niños que iban en la excursión. Estaban fascinados, señalando a cada criatura con los ojos bien abiertos, corriendo de un dinosaurio a otro como si estuvieran dentro de una película. Esa alegría infantil fue contagiosa.

Tomé muchas fotos, aunque confieso que me quedé con ganas de capturar más. El tiempo apremiaba y el recorrido debía continuar. Pero lo que no pude llevarme en imágenes, me lo guardé en el alma.

A veces no se necesita pasar horas en un lugar para que te deje huella. A veces basta un instante, una imagen, una emoción. Y así fue mi breve visita al Valle de la Prehistoria: rápida, sí... pero mágica.

Last Sunday, before arriving at the Santiago de Cuba Aquarium, we made a quick but very special stop: the Valley of Prehistory. Even though we were only there for a few minutes, it was one of those moments that stay engraved in your heart.

As soon as the bus stopped, I almost ran out. Excitement completely took over me. I remembered having been there as a child, and returning so many years later felt like opening a chest full of memories. Nostalgia accompanied me with every step as I rushed through almost the entire place, phone in hand and with the smile of someone returning to a place they never truly left.

This peculiar valley is located within Baconao Park, in Santiago de Cuba, and was inaugurated in 1980. It's a unique place, full of giant cement sculptures representing dinosaurs, mammoths, saber-toothed tigers, primitive humans, and other prehistoric creatures. The figures, though made with simple techniques, have a very special charm, almost like something out of a childhood dream.

The best part was seeing the reactions of the children on the trip. They were amazed, pointing at each creature with wide eyes, running from one dinosaur to another as if they were inside a movie. That childlike joy was contagious.

I took many photos, although I must admit I wish I had taken more. Time was short and the trip had to go on. But what I couldn’t capture in photos, I kept in my heart.

Sometimes you don’t need to spend hours in a place for it to leave a mark on you. Sometimes a single moment, a single image, a single emotion is enough. And that’s how my brief visit to the Valley of Prehistory was: quick, yes… but magical.
