Hoy quiero contarles sobre uno de esos días que se quedan grabados en la memoria.

Hace aproximadamente dos semanas tuvimos uno de los salones quirúrgicos más largos y complicados que recuerdo en muchísimo tiempo. Desde que llegamos al hospital todo parecía indicar que sería una jornada difícil. Surgieron varios problemas logísticos en el quirófano que retrasaron el inicio de las cirugías y, para completar el panorama, apareció una urgencia que no estaba planificada. Lo que inicialmente serían ocho cirugías terminó convirtiéndose en nueve.

Comenzamos mucho más tarde de lo previsto y, como era de esperarse, también terminamos muy tarde. De hecho, salimos del hospital ya de noche. Ni siquiera recuerdo cuándo fue la última vez que me tocó salir tan tarde después de un salón.

Fueron muchas horas de pie, con cansancio acumulado y prácticamente sin tiempo para pensar en la comida. Sin embargo, hubo algo que nunca faltó durante todo el día: las sonrisas. A pesar del agotamiento, el ambiente en el equipo seguía siendo positivo porque todos compartíamos el mismo objetivo: ayudar a esos niños que esperaban por su cirugía.

Ese día logramos operar a muchos pequeños que realmente lo necesitaban. Además, realizamos procedimientos que nunca habíamos hecho antes, lo que representó un gran reto para todo el equipo. Afortunadamente, todo salió muy bien y cada paciente terminó su cirugía de forma satisfactoria.

Al final del día, el hambre y el cansancio pasaron a un segundo plano. Lo único que quedó fue esa inmensa satisfacción que solo deja el deber cumplido. Son jornadas como esta las que nos recuerdan por qué elegimos esta profesión. Aunque haya días muy difíciles, la recompensa de saber que pudimos cambiar la vida de varios niños hace que todo el esfuerzo haya valido la pena.

I have been quite absent from Hive these past few days. Between work, connection issues, endless power outages, and some personal matters, it has been impossible for me to sit down and write peacefully. The truth is that I have so many things to share, but I simply hadn't found the right moment.

Today I want to tell you about one of those days that stays with you forever.
About two weeks ago, we had one of the longest and most challenging operating room days I can remember in a very long time. From the moment we arrived at the hospital, everything pointed to it being a difficult day. We faced several logistical issues in the operating room that delayed the start of the surgeries, and to make things even more challenging, an unexpected emergency case was added to the schedule. What was originally planned as eight surgeries ended up becoming nine.

We started much later than expected and, as a result, we also finished very late. In fact, we left the hospital after dark. I honestly can't remember the last time I walked out of the hospital that late after a full day in the operating room.

We spent many hours on our feet, feeling increasingly tired and with hardly any time to even think about food. Still, there was one thing that never disappeared throughout the day: our smiles. Despite the exhaustion, the atmosphere within the team remained positive because we all shared the same goal, helping those children who were waiting for their surgeries.

That day, we were able to operate on many children who truly needed it. We also performed procedures that we had never done before, which was a great challenge for the entire team. Fortunately, everything went well, and every patient completed their surgery successfully.

By the end of the day, hunger and exhaustion had become secondary. What remained was the incredible feeling of satisfaction that only comes from knowing you have fulfilled your duty. Days like this remind us why we chose this profession. Even when the work is incredibly demanding, knowing that we were able to make a difference in the lives of so many children makes every sacrifice worthwhile.
