Aun así, aceptamos. A veces lo importante no es el lugar, sino la compañía.

Al llegar, nos ubicaron en las mesas familiares. Nunca me había sentado allí, y no sé si fue el espacio, la energía o simplemente nosotras, pero desde ese momento todo se sintió diferente. Pedimos un poco de todo: cafés expresos, capuchinos, cerveza, bolitas de queso, croquetas y unos tostones rellenos de jamón y queso que prometían bastante.

Lo primero que notamos fue la demora. Incluso el café, que suele ser lo más rápido, se hizo esperar más de la cuenta. Pero bueno, estábamos juntas… y eso suaviza cualquier impaciencia.

Cuando comenzaron a llegar las cosas, las croquetas y las bolitas de queso no decepcionaron en absoluto: deliciosas, bien hechas, de esas que te sacan una sonrisa sin mucho esfuerzo. Aunque eso sí, las bolitas de queso con salsa rosa… no sé, para mí siempre van mejor con miel o algún almíbar, pero igual desaparecieron del plato en segundos.

La cerveza no era de mis preferidas, pero llevaba tanto tiempo sin tomar una, que la disfruté como si lo fuera. A veces el momento le gana al gusto.

El capuchino… bueno, aquí viene mi parte crítica. Ya saben cuánto amo el buen café, y este no estuvo a la altura. Más bien parecía un café con leche ligero, sin ese carácter que uno espera. Pero tampoco dejó de ser parte de la experiencia.

Y entonces llegaron los tostones.
Simplemente espectaculares. Tamaño perfecto, bien rellenos, crujientes por fuera y suaves por dentro. De esos platos que hacen que todo lo demás pase a un segundo plano. Sin duda, lo mejor de la mesa.

Lamentablemente, el tiempo jugaba en nuestra contra. Habíamos pedido unos batidos de helado que nunca llegaron, y tuvimos que cancelarlos. Nos quedamos con las ganas, pero ya el momento estaba completo.

Porque al final, lo más importante no fue la comida ni la espera… fue todo lo demás.

Las risas, las historias, las miradas cómplices. Nos conocemos desde hace unos 17 años, y aunque la vida nos ha llevado por caminos distintos, son pocas las veces que logramos coincidir así, sin prisas, sin obligaciones, simplemente siendo nosotras.

After finishing consultations, like we usually do, we decided to grab a quick coffee at the hospital cafeteria. It was one of those routine moments, necessary but not particularly exciting. But the day had other plans for us. On the way, we ran into my sister, and without thinking twice, she invited us to go to El Regente café. A beautiful, cozy place, although I have to admit their coffee has never really impressed me.

Still, we said yes. Sometimes it’s not about the place, but the company.
When we arrived, they seated us at the family tables. I had never sat there before, and I don’t know if it was the space, the energy, or just us, but from that moment everything felt different. We ordered a bit of everything: espresso, cappuccinos, beer, cheese balls, croquettes, and stuffed fried plantains with ham and cheese that sounded very promising.

The first thing we noticed was the delay. Even the coffee, which is usually the quickest, took longer than expected. But we were together, and that softens any impatience.

When the food started arriving, the croquettes and cheese balls did not disappoint at all. They were delicious, the kind that make you smile without much effort. Although I have to say, cheese balls with pink sauce felt a bit off to me. I think they go much better with honey or syrup. Still, they disappeared from the plate in seconds.

The beer wasn’t one of my favorites, but I had been craving one for so long that I enjoyed it anyway. Sometimes the moment matters more than the taste.

The cappuccino… well, here comes my critical side. You know how much I love good coffee, and this one just didn’t deliver. It tasted more like a light coffee with milk, without that strong character you expect. But it was still part of the experience.

And then the stuffed plantains arrived.
Simply amazing. Perfect size, well filled, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. One of those dishes that makes everything else fade into the background. Without a doubt, the highlight of the table.
Unfortunately, we were a bit rushed. We had ordered ice cream milkshakes that never arrived, and we had to cancel them. We were left wanting more, but the moment already felt complete.

Because in the end, what mattered most wasn’t the food or the wait. It was everything else.

The laughter, the stories, the knowing glances. We’ve known each other for about 17 years, and even though life has taken us in different directions, we rarely get the chance to sit together like this, without pressure, without obligations, just being ourselves.

Today was one of those unplanned moments that somehow feel necessary. Personally, I needed it. I needed to disconnect, to laugh freely, to let go of a little bit of everything.

And I left with more than a full stomach.
