Este domingo tenía un plan perfecto: un día en la hermosa playa de Guardalavaca con mi mejor amiga, su esposo y sus hijos, que son mis ahijados. Habíamos reservado con nuestra agencia de siempre, nos levantamos a las 5:00 am y estábamos listos para la aventura. Pero la vida tenía otros planes.

A las 6:00 am, el transporte nunca llegó, llamamos al encargado y, muy apenado, nos dijo que no estábamos en la lista por un error suyo. Nos devolvieron el dinero y nos prometieron un viaje gratis para cuando quisiéramos. Desanimados, pero no derrotados, decidimos que no íbamos a dejar que esto arruinara nuestro día.

Entonces, recordé que en la ciudad Holguín, Cuba, existe un hotel con una piscina genial, Hotel Pernik y pasadías disponibles. Después de una larga cola para entrar, finalmente logramos nuestro objetivo: la piscina. Desde el primer chapuzón, sabíamos que habíamos tomado la decisión correcta, pasamos todo el día y la tarde nadando, riendo y jugando con los niños. Fue especialmente divertido cuando llegó la fiesta de la espuma, nunca había estado en una y fue increíble, ver a los niños reír y jugar en la espuma hizo que todo el esfuerzo valiera la pena.

Al final del día, mientras el sol se ponía y los niños, cansados, pero felices, se quedaban dormidos encima de su padre, me di cuenta de que a veces los mejores momentos son los que no planeas. Lo que comenzó como un contratiempo resultó ser uno de los días más divertidos que hemos tenido.

This Sunday I had a perfect plan: a day at the beautiful beach of Guardalavaca with my best friend, her husband and their children, who are my godchildren. We had booked with our usual agency, got up at 5:00 am and were ready for the adventure. But life had other plans.

At 6:00 am, the transportation never arrived, we called the manager and, very sorry, he told us that we were not on the list because of his mistake. We got our money back and were promised a free ride whenever we wanted. Discouraged, but not defeated, we decided we were not going to let this ruin our day.

Then, I remembered that in the city of Holguin, Cuba, there is a hotel with a great swimming pool, Hotel Pernik, and available internships. After a long line to get in, we finally reached our goal: the pool. From the first dip, we knew we had made the right choice, we spent the whole day and afternoon swimming, laughing and playing with the kids. It was especially fun when the foam party came, I had never been to one before and it was amazing, seeing the kids laughing and playing in the foam made all the effort worth it.

At the end of the day, as the sun was setting and the tired but happy kids were falling asleep on top of their dad, I realized that sometimes the best moments are the ones you don't plan for. What started out as a hiccup turned out to be one of the most fun days we've ever had.
