Antes de ayer decidí regalarme una pequeña pausa en medio de la nostalgia que se respira estos días en Holguín. Como cada año, nuestra ciudad celebra las Romerías de Mayo, una festividad que siempre disfruté muchísimo desde mi juventud, cuando las calles se llenaban de alegría, música y vida. Sin embargo, esta vez el ambiente se siente diferente: más silencioso, con menos personas y con pocas actividades recreativas que recuerden aquellos tiempos tan vibrantes.

Aun así, mi amiga Yessica y yo decidimos salir y buscar un poco de esa esencia cultural que tanto caracteriza a nuestra ciudad. Fue así como llegamos a la Galería de Bayado, ubicada en pleno corazón de Holguín, frente al emblemático Parque Calixto García y justo al lado del histórico museo La Periquera.

Desde que entramos, el lugar nos envolvió con una atmósfera especial. Fuimos recibidas con mucha amabilidad por el encargado, quien con gran entusiasmo nos guió por la exposición, compartiendo detalles sobre las obras, sus creadores y el valor artístico de cada pieza.

Pudimos admirar cuadros realmente hermosos, incluyendo obras del reconocido Cosme Proenza, junto a otros talentosos artistas locales que reflejan en sus trabajos la riqueza cultural de nuestra tierra.

Además de las pinturas, también disfrutamos de preciosas piezas talladas en madera, verdaderas muestras de creatividad y dedicación. Cada obra parecía contar su propia historia, atrapándonos entre colores, formas y emociones.

Aunque nos comentaron que muchas de las piezas estaban disponibles para la venta, y sinceramente sus precios escapaban de nuestro presupuesto, eso no impidió que disfrutáramos profundamente la experiencia de contemplarlas. Porque a veces, el arte no necesita pertenecer a nuestras manos para quedarse en nuestra memoria.

Fue una visita sencilla, pero profundamente enriquecedora. En medio de una ciudad que hoy parece más apagada, encontramos un rincón donde el arte sigue respirando, resistiendo y recordándonos que la belleza todavía tiene espacio entre nosotros.

The day before yesterday, I decided to give myself a small pause in the middle of the nostalgia that fills Holguín these days. As every year, my city is celebrating the Romerías de Mayo, a festival I have always deeply enjoyed since I was young, when the streets were full of joy, music, and life. However, this time the atmosphere feels different: quieter, with fewer people and almost no recreational activities to remind us of those vibrant times.

Even so, my friend Yessica and I decided to go out and look for a little of that cultural essence that has always defined our city. That is how we arrived at Galería Bayado, located right in the heart of Holguín, in front of the iconic Calixto García Park and next to the historic La Periquera museum.

From the moment we walked in, the place embraced us with a special atmosphere. We were warmly welcomed by the person in charge, who enthusiastically guided us through the exhibition, sharing details about the artworks, their creators, and the artistic value behind each piece.

We had the opportunity to admire truly beautiful paintings, including works by the renowned Cosme Proenza, along with other talented local artists whose creations reflect the rich cultural spirit of our land.

In addition to the paintings, we also enjoyed exquisite wooden pieces, true examples of creativity and dedication. Each artwork seemed to tell its own story, capturing us through colors, shapes, and emotions.

Although we were informed that many of the pieces were available for purchase, and honestly their prices were beyond our budget, that did not stop us from fully enjoying the experience of admiring them. Sometimes, art does not need to belong to our hands to remain in our hearts.

It was a simple visit, yet deeply enriching. In the middle of a city that now feels somewhat dim, we found a corner where art continues to breathe, resist, and remind us that beauty still has a place among us.
