Exploring the Charming Village of Glurns in South Tyrol
Hello dear friends,
Today, I find myself sick with a fever. Unfortunately, in my area, the unpleasant season with cold and rain has arrived, which has weakened my immune system. So, I'm at home today and decided to write this post, sharing something I experienced this summer when I was in the mountains. It's a pity that this fever struck me just tonight when I was supposed to celebrate Halloween, but we must take life in a positive way. This is also an opportunity to introduce you to the place I visited.
Glurns is located in South Tyrol, and in my opinion, it's a small town that is definitely worth a visit. Not only for its architectural beauty but also for its history. It's not a heavily populated center; in fact, it has barely a thousand inhabitants. However, I believe it's one of the oldest and best-preserved towns in all of South Tyrol. Glurns is situated in the famous Val Venosta, which certainly offers breathtaking landscapes and is also renowned for apple production. The apples here are of excellent quality, thanks not only to the climate but also to the natural and pristine environment.
This enchanting place has witnessed historical encounters between Italy and Austria. For centuries, it has been strategically located between the Brenner Pass and the Stelvio Pass, becoming an important center for trade. Famous figures have visited here, such as Emperor Maximilian I, and renowned poets have often found their inspiration in this charming town.
As you can see from the photos, its medieval appearance with its historic center characterized by arcades, where traditional markets are still held, along with these stately houses decorated with frescoes and coats of arms. There are also many churches that safeguard valuable works of art.
Naturally, when I come to this place, it's also because it serves as a starting point to discover other natural beauties in this valley. Whether in summer or winter, an important bike path passes through here, allowing you to explore the valley not only by bike but also on foot. It connects Austria and Italy, and numerous hiking trails lead you to the highest peaks of the Stelvio National Park.
In my personal opinion, Glurns has always been a place that has enchanted me with its vibrancy and hospitality. Many times, it's said that the people in South Tyrol are reserved both in terms of mentality and hospitality, but I don't believe that's true. What struck me about this place, besides its distinctive character, is how well-maintained and preserved it is. It's definitely worth a visit.
I must say that when I was here on vacation, I also got to try the local cuisine, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I forgot to take some photos to share with you, but you can take my word for it that the food here is really delicious and truly traditional.
I hope to have the opportunity to return to this place, but for now, let's move on to my next post, hoping that you enjoyed this publication here!
