Hello travelers of the @worldmappin community!

Today I have the pleasure of inviting you to discover and walk through the most colonial corners of the province of Ciego de Ávila, from its urban styles, architecture, buildings and the natural ambiance of everyday life here. I will also take you on a tour through different central places like the elders' church, vintage cars, daily life and local streets all the way until sunset.

Hoy tengo el placer de invitarlos a conocer y caminar las esquinas más coloniales de la provincia de Ciego de Ávila, desde sus estilos urbanísticos, arquitectura, edificios y ambiente natural del avileño de a pie. También les presentaré un recorrido por distintos lugares céntricos como la iglesia de ancianos, autos antiguos, día a día y calles locales hasta el atardecer.

I always appreciate these walks at the end of the day. My Ciego de Ávila is a modern city, where although the historic center highlights many features of the region's typical colonial architecture, there are still several structures in its surroundings with unique histories and designs from their time of construction.

As you can see, it is an environment with very little economic development, but with good people and a desire to get ahead. Right now, the city is somewhat desolate due to the epidemic of the chikungunya virus transmitted by infected mosquitoes. It is an illness that causes headaches and muscle pain. These photos show the scarce number of people in the sales centers and shops selling personal items for the population.

Siempre aprecio estas caminatas al terminar el día, mi Ciego de Ávila es una urbe moderna, que aunque en el casco histórico se resaltan muchos rasgos de la arquitectura colonial típica de la región, aún existen varías estructuras a sus alrededores con historias y diseños únicos de su época de fabricación.

Como se observa es un ambiente de muy poco desarrollo económico, pero con buenas personas y ganas de salir delante. Ahora la ciudad se encuentra un desolada por la epidemia del virus chikungunya transmitido por el mosquito infectado, es una enfermedad que produce dolores de cabeza y musculares, estas fotos muestran el poco personal en los centros de ventas y artículos personales para la población.

As the afternoon began, I photographed one of the most central corners of the city, featuring an attractive gastronomic center where you can purchase light meals. Interestingly, it has retained the name "El Cabildo" since colonial times, dating back to around 1865.

The green church is a home for the elderly, as they welcome seniors without families there. They are ensured medical care and a pleasant stay.

Comenzando la tarde, fotografié una de las esquinas más céntricas de la ciudad y con un atractivo centro gastronómico donde puedes adquirir alimentos ligeros. Como dato curioso se conserva con el nombre de "El Cabildo" desde la época colonial por los años 1865.

La iglesia de color verde, es un hogar de ancianos, pues allí acogen a las personas de la tercera edad sin familias y tienen asegurados los cuidados médicos, además de una estancia agradable.

Continuing my walk to show you other corners of my town, as the sun dips a little lower, I head towards quieter neighborhoods where classic cars rest in the shade of the houses, and neighbors chat while sitting on their porches.

The streets begin to be less sunny, and people start their tasks for the family dinner.

Siguiendo mi caminata para presentarles otras esquinas de mi pueblo, al bajar un poco el sol, me dirijo hacia barrios más tranquilos donde los vehículos clásicos descansan bajo las sombras de las casas, y los vecinos conversan sentados en los portales.

Las calles empiezan a estar menos soleadas y las personas en las labores de la cena familiar.

This district features very original modern designs. It is known as the "Casa del Agua" (Water House), as treated water is sold to the public at these facilities. This allows for the removal of hardness and impurities from the vital liquid.

The prices at the Water House are 2 pesos in national currency per liter, and 1 peso for sterilizing the container, if the customer wishes. Bags of ice, produced using their technology, are also offered for 6 pesos.

Este distrito es de diseños modernos bien originales, conocido como la Casa del Agua, pues en estas instalaciones se vente al personal el agua tratada, lo que permitirá eliminar la dureza e impurezas del vital líquido.

Los precios en la Casa del Agua son de 2 pesos en moneda nacional el litro y de 1 peso la esterilización del envase, si así lo desea el cliente. También se oferta la bolsa de hielo, beneficiada por su tecnología, a 6 pesos.

Continuing through the corners, we come across several workplaces and traffic signs, in addition to the typical urban aesthetic of our Cuban neighborhoods.

All along the highway, there are abundant modern and old houses with pleasant architecture and green gardens, mostly filled with palm trees.

Avanzando por las esquinas, nos encontramos con varios centros de trabajo y señalizaciones de tránsito. Además de una estética urbana típica de nuestros barrios cubanos.

Por toda la carretera hay abundantes casas modernas y antiguas, con arquitecturas agradables y jardines verdes mayormente palmeras.

This three-story structure, with its wrought ironwork and balconies, was built in a unique vertical style known in these traditional areas. It's a combination of popular modernity and urban wear, yet well-maintained by its owners.

The Las Palmas building. Today, it remains the heart of the city with real estate offices. It's a space where many locals from Ciego de Ávila pass through, especially at dusk, creating a unique and cherished atmosphere for going about their daily tasks.

Esta estructura de tres niveles, enrejada y de balcones, se construyó con un estilo vertical único conocido por estas zonas tradicionales. De combinación de modernidad popular y desgaste urbano, pero bien conserva por sus dueños.

El edificio Las Palmas. Hoy, sigue siendo el corazón de la ciudad con ventas de inmobiliarias, un espacio donde muchos avileños transitan especialmente al atardecer, creando una atmósfera única y entrañable para realizar sus tareas diarias.

Continuing on, we arrive at Champagnat School, a building with a classic façade featuring a Republican style and Neoclassical influence. Its foundations date back to 1951, a few years before the revolutionary triumph.

Currently, these architectural gems continue to operate as schools for children. It is now very deteriorated, but it is still functioning.

Al continuar, llegamos al Colegio Champagnat, una edificación de fachada clásica con estilo republicano y influencia neoclásica. Son fundaciones que datan de 1951 unos años antes del triunfo revolucionario.

Actualmente estas joyas se siguen ejerciendo como escuelas para niños. Ya esta muy deteriorada pero aún está funcionando.

You can see that its design occupies an entire city block. And it must house close to 30 classrooms for teaching.

I'll tell you that in Cuba, there are more than 7 centers just like this one that I'm showing you in the images.

Se puede observar que abarca una manzana completa su diseño. Y debe albergar cerca de 30 aulas de enseñanzas.

Les comentaré que en Cuba, existen más de 7 centros así como este que les muestro en las imágenes.

Walking through my Ciego de Ávila is like flipping through an album of living memories. It's a history that, despite the years, remains in a state of very poor economic development, with conservative colonial structures preserved for tourism.

The recreational areas and parks breathe calm; they are adorned with trees that rise like guardians of time, while people move through them with that unique blend of tranquility and energy so characteristic of central Cuba.

Andar mi Ciego de Ávila es como recorrer un álbum de recuerdos vivos. Es una historia que a pesar de los años se mantiene en desarrollo económico muy pobre, y estructuras coloniales conservadoras para el turismo.

Las áreas recreativas y parques respiran calma, se adornan con árboles que se elevan como guardianas del tiempo, mientras la gente transita con esa mezcla de tranquilidad y energía tan propia del centro de Cuba.

To conclude, I'll show you where my first school years were. This school in the next photo was where my early childhood years took place. Passing by and seeing it brought back many beautiful memories.

It doesn't matter how small my city is. She is unique, incomparable, because she holds you and you will always hold her close to your heart. You will see a beauty that no stranger could perceive.

Today, this tour through the colonial corners captures more than stories: it captures the essence of a city that pulses, that evolves, and that invites you to explore it again and again.

Para concluir, les mostraré donde fueron mis primeros años de enseñanza, este colegio de la siguiente foto, fueron mis primeros años de niñez, al pasar y verlo me vinieron muchos recuerdos bonitos.

No importa lo pequeño que es mi ciudad. Ella es única, incomparable, porque te tiene y tú la tendrás siempre prendida a tu corazón y verás la belleza que ningún extraño podría percibir.

Hoy, este recorrido por las esquinas coloniales captura más que historias: captura la esencia de una ciudad que late, que evoluciona y que invita a recorrer una y otra vez.
