Visiting Time: Food and Love at Aunt's House

avatar

The aunt definitely missed the boys so much that she called the night before to ask whether would the boys come. I told her yes! Past two Saturdays, the boys could not go to her house due to coding class replacement as well as Jansen not feeling well. However, three of us managed to visit her this week. Yayy!

To Aunt's House

When I reached, I saw her table had a lot of plates, meaning she cooked more dishes again. I teased her, "Chinese New Year ah, oh birthday celebration ah?"

She smiled and replied, "Can cook more is a blessing." She was transferring the steamed pumpkin unto the plate.

Let's see what she cooked

Wahhhh!!!

She then pointed to the soup and explained to me there was a tad bitterness due to one ingredient she added in called 'Ling Zhi', a Chinese herbs which was good for blood circulation, overall good for health. Saying the boys drank one bowl was enough. And the adults could drink more.

She led me to kitchen to show me how Ling Zhi looked like although it was already cut into pieces. She asked me to imagine it looked like a big piece of mushroom yet it wasn't mushroom but of thr fungus family.

And her big pot of the souo full of goodness of chicken broth as she used lots of chicken bones as well as chicken feet and American ginseng and lingzhi inside.

Zoom in to her food!

1. Fish Fillets

Our favourite. She usually bought whole fishes fresh then she filleted them, seasoned with some salt and pepper, followed by coat with flour and egg, then her homemade breadcrumbs. Super yummy. Then we found fried omelette underneath. She always cooked delicious thick omelette, saying eggs were good for the children as they are still growing.

2. Mixed vegetables

Her signature dish which was the dish we all loved. Broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes. Simple and yummy. She separately steamed pumpkin too as she heard from me I want to narrow down Jansen's intake of vegetables to a few to find out which one were more suitable to reduce his monthly complications. Since dietitian advised us to avoid high fibre vegetables like the leafy type but consume more carrots, pumpkin and potatoes, small amount of broccoli and cauliflower. My aunt is so caring.

3. Hakka dish pork and salted vegetables

She cooked this because she had little pork left and she knew I love this dish. Sooooo thoughtful of her. A yummy dish of stir fry pork slices with salted vegetables.

4. Braised Chicken

She bought whole chicken and debone them, slightly tenderised the meat and cut into smaller slices. Pan fried till brown then add sauces then simmer till the meats were soft. Super duper appetizing.

5. The herbal soup

The herbal soup with chicken bones and goodness of Chinese herbs. She found out myself and Jansen actually love chicken feet, so she took for us, so we got to eat a few too. So soft as she boiled for hours. Natural collagen for me, haha.

After lunch, the boys spent some time in the room.

Jansen wanted to play a toy. She had boxes of toys for them in the room.

After that, he wanted to play monkey tumble with the grantaunt.

I let the boys and Aunt to hang out to play and chitchat for longer time since I knew my Aunt missed them. When the tine was up, she packed for us the food, to bring back for our dinner.

I always left her house feeling loved and blessed. Really wishing her long life, she is 79 years old this year, may she lives till 90 years old. She said she is blessed because God gives her good health. That health is wealth.

Your aunt outdid herself again! What a marvelous spread of food. She must love cooking just as much as she loves her family.
