Petaling Street: walking down their memory lane of dating time😍😍

After dining at Ho Kow Kopitiam and walking at Kwai Chai Hong lane, my parents wanted to reminisce their dating memory lane at Petaling Street. My father said back then in their early dating years, whenever they got opportunity to go to the Kuala Lumpur city from Batu Arang small village town, they would come here for spending time together, walking, eating and buying stuff.

I asked them to pose a pose whereby the photo was only showing my dad's hand holding my mom's hand, and my mom was walking in front looking front, meaning the photo was showing her back (if you get what I meant). My dad shook his head and laughing while commenting, "You thought we were still young ah".

Let's walk with me as I walked with them.

Petaling Street

Petaling Street is a very popular Chinatown market place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Hence, the whole area is called Chinatown KL or in Kantonis language, 'Ci Cong Gai'. It is bustling with various activities that take place throughout the day and night, but especially its nightlife. Being a market place, haggling is common here. The more you able to negotiate, the better deal you get. It is usually crowded with locals as well as tourists.

Petaling Street is also known for its varieties of restaurants and food stalls and street food selling authentic Malaysian dishes like the curry noodles, Asam laksa, barbecued fish (Ikan Bakar), Hokkien mee, 'muah-chee', fruits, barbecued flatten pork (Ba Kua), refreshing drink and many more. You have to walk here to find out.

The entire stretch of Petaling Street is covered with a green covering roof (you can see from the photo above) to protect the customers, shop owners and visitors from rain and heat. The whole street will look very lively at night with its lights from tanglungs as well as bright neon lights everywhere. In a nutshell, the whole place is full of life, energy, happy shoppers and food lovers throughout the day. Also, there will be street prostitution too although they do it discreetly.

From Kwai Chai Hong walking to Petaling Street, I saw someone familiar, one of my cousin stood at this building called Mary Jane. I was very attracted by the pink flowers surrounding him actually. Haha.

I stood across the entrance to take this photo of the entrance to Petaling Street. Where I was standing, I saw there was a huge mural art at the other right hand side. I actually needed to zoom in to take the art, hence a little blurry.

Entrance to Petaling Street

The huge art at the side of the road, showing "Here for good".

Still in love with tanglungs decoration on top and the red pillar. Red colour always signifies luck among Chinese communities, and since this is Chinatown, we must have tanglungs everywhere.

We just casually took our walk, looking around. Many shoppers had been calling us to buy stuffs at their shop. Perfume, watches, jewelleries, bags, clothes, too many things. We kept walking because we did not need all those stuffs at the moment.

Fruits shop

My father stopped here because he couldn't resist roasted chestnuts. It was actually a fruit stall but the main attraction here was the roasted chestnuts as the seller was calling out "Chestnut. Chestnut. Fragrant chestnut."

Chestnuts being roasted.

I was not sure what were the black colour stuff around the chestnut. But standing here, the chestnuts smelled great.

The seller let us tried one because he said his was the best in town. Then he continued to sing a song using the lyric "chestnuts chestnuts fragrant chestnuts. Eat and you can't stop eating." haha.

Then, he said his rambutan (hairy red fruit) and mangosteen were the best too. He portrayed so much confidence.

So, my father bought 1kg of chestnuts and 1kg of mangosteen.

Mochi

We then continued walking and saw 'muah-chee' shop selling bite-sized chewy mochi thingy, loaded with peanuts bits and sugar. This apparently was famous for its awesome texture, one which would not stuck at your teeth or throat.
My eldest son wanted it so I bought one for him.

Air Mata Kucing

Directly translate and nobody would wanna drink this. Cat's tears. I have no idea why. But this is actually a refreshing drink made from longan, snow fungus, and even chia seeds inside. Sugary sweet and refreshing. Bought two bottles too to drink in the car.

Out of the blue, my mom we went missing reunited with us with jackfruits. We ate when we reached home.

Other stalls that we spotted were as below but we were too full to buy somemore.

On our way back to the car park, my youngest son walked pass a toy shop and desiring to take photo with the Spiderman skateboard. So we did.

And I spotted a cafe shop full of greeneries which according to my husband was a popular shop. So I took photo of it to out into my next-to-visit cafe.

Thank you for walking with me virtually thus far. If you are not from Malaysia and is coming to Kuala Lumpur, please come to Petaling Street. However, one disadvantage of being a tourists here is the vendors usually try to sell you stuffs at higher price. So you might as well want to come here with me. I will help you negotiate. Hehe.
