Traditional Gold Panning
A resident in Jago-jago Village, Badiri District, Central Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra, is doing traditional gold panning activities in a natural ditch, this water flows from the mountain.
I, along with my colleagues who were part of a research team, take pictures of this traditional gold shelter activity. This is the first time I can see firsthand the traditional gold panning process, at first I was not sure that the water contained grains of gold, but after being shown it, oh it really is gold.
This traditional method of panning for gold, starts with filling a wooden pan with soil from a stream of water, then shaking it regularly so that dust, sand, and clay can be removed.
This activity is commonly carried out by the people here, even some people depend on this work for their livelihoods.
Together with a team guided by local residents, we arrived at the location of traditional gold panning, we were escorted by boat along the river and swamp where nipa palm (Nypa fruticans) were growing.
