[3d Print] Vom Fehlschlag zum Erfolg - From Failure to Success

Manchmal können uns selbst die kleinsten Projekte die größten Lektionen erteilen. Dies ist die Geschichte davon, wie ein einfacher 3D-Druck-Auftrag zu einer Reise aus Versuch, Irrtum und letztendlichem Erfolg wurde.
Sometimes, even the smallest projects can teach us the biggest lessons. This is the story of how a simple 3D printing task turned into a journey of trial, error, and ultimate success.

Vor einer Woche sprach mich ein Freund an, ob ich nicht einen Steher für die Paintballpistole drucken kann.
Na klar, wozu habe ich denn den 3D-Drucker, sagte ich ihm. Und so machte ich mich ans Werk.

A week ago, a friend asked me if I could print a stand for his paintball gun.
Of course, I thought – that’s what I have the 3D printer for. And so I got to work.

Gemeinsam suchten wir auf den 3D-Druck-Seiten das passende Modell heraus, und ich begann, es zu drucken.
Fertig und mit vollem Stolz übergab ich das gute Stück. Doch nach ein paar Stunden klingelte mein Telefon. „Es ist abgebrochen“, kam aus dem Hörer.

Together, we searched for the right model on 3D printing websites, and I started printing it.
Finished and full of pride, I handed over the piece. But a few hours later, my phone rang. “It broke off,” came through the receiver.

Verdammt, dachte ich mir und antwortete: „Schick mir mal ein Foto.“ Dann sah ich meinen Fehler: Ich hatte zu wenig Wandstärke genommen. Das konnte die Waffe einfach nicht halten. Also noch einmal das Ganze. Diesmal änderte ich nicht nur die Wandstärke, sondern auch das Material. Vorher hatte ich PLA verwendet, jetzt nahm ich PETG.

Damn, I thought, and replied: “Send me a photo.” Then I saw my mistake: I had used too little wall thickness. It simply couldn’t hold the weight of the gun. So, back to the drawing board. This time, I not only changed the wall thickness but also the material. Before, I had used PLA; now I chose PETG.

Fertig zum Ausprobieren, schrieb ich ihm. Kurz darauf bekam ich ein Foto – es hatte geklappt! Die Paintballpistole stand sicher auf dem Halter. Doch gestern erreichte mich eine Nachricht von meinem Freund. Zuerst dachte ich, es sei wieder kaputt, aber nein: Er brauchte noch einen weiteren Halter.
Also druckte ich noch einen. Diesmal verwendete ich PLA CF, ein spezielles PLA, das Carbonfasern enthält und deutlich stabiler ist als normales PLA. Heute holt mein Freund den neuen Halter ab. Mal sehen, ob alles hält.

Ready for testing, I wrote to him. Shortly after, I received a photo – it had worked! The paintball gun stood securely on the stand.
But yesterday, I received another message from my friend. At first, I thought it had broken again, but no: He needed another stand.
So, I printed another one. This time, I used PLA CF, a special PLA that contains carbon fibers and is significantly stronger than regular PLA. Today, my friend is picking up the new stand. Let’s see if everything holds.

Fazit – Lernen durch Ausprobieren / Conclusion – Learning by Doing

Manchmal können selbst kleine Projekte uns wertvolle Lektionen erteilen. Der erste, gescheiterte Versuch war kein Rückschlag, sondern eine Chance, mehr über Materialeigenschaften, Wandstärken und Stabilität zu lernen. Genau das macht den 3D-Druck so spannend – es ist ein ständiger Prozess des Lernens und Ausprobierens. Am Ende haben beide Halter ihren Zweck erfüllt, und mein Freund ist zufrieden. Und wer weiß? Vielleicht bringt der nächste Druckauftrag ja wieder eine neue Herausforderung mit sich. Denn jeder Fehler ist nur ein Schritt näher zum Erfolg.

Sometimes, even small projects can teach us valuable lessons. The failed first attempt wasn’t a setback, but rather an opportunity to learn more about material properties, wall thickness, and durability. That’s exactly what makes 3D printing so exciting—it’s a constant process of improvement and experimentation. In the end, both stands fulfilled their purpose, and my friend is happy. And who knows? Maybe the next print will bring a whole new challenge. After all, every failure is just a step closer to success.

Eine Prise Humor / A Little Humor

Nach dem dritten Druck dachte ich schon, mein 3D-Drucker hätte eine persönliche Vendetta gegen mich. Aber am Ende haben wir uns versöhnt – und die Halter wurden super!

After the third print, I was starting to think my 3D printer had a personal vendetta against me. But in the end, we made peace – and the stands turned out great!
