Good Morning to All My Hive Friends!

My heartfelt wishes for a peaceful and serene day ahead for you. In the past few days, we—Sinhala Buddhists—commemorated two very special Vesak days. This occasion marks the celebration of three extraordinary events in the life of Lord Buddha: His birth, enlightenment, and passing into Parinirvana.

During these peaceful days, I decided to take a short break to reconnect with inner calm and spiritual strength. I also had the opportunity to pay homage at the revered Panagoda Sri Bodhirajarama Temple, which stands as a proud symbol of our rich cultural heritage.

This visit was initiated by my younger brother. So, from early morning, we set off from home with peaceful hearts and began this devotional journey.

This temple, nestled in a tranquil environment, offers more than just a religious experience—it is a sacred space where history, devotion, and the peaceful presence of nature come together in harmony.

As I entered the Dewamālīgā premises, the gentle rustle of the Bo leaves and the soft glow of the midday sunlight filtering through the trees instantly filled me with a deep sense of calm and serenity.

Sri Bodhirajarama is not merely a temple; it holds deep spiritual significance for many devotees in the region. The revered Bodhi tree, believed to be a sapling from the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, stands tall and commanding—a silent witness to countless heartfelt prayers whispered across generations.

Together with my children, I paused for a few minutes in silent reflection beneath its shade, feeling grateful for the simplicity of just being present in that sacred space. However, due to my young child's restlessness, we couldn’t stay there for much longer.

The beautifully designed architecture and the serene main shrine featuring a peaceful Buddha statue invited me to light a few oil lamps and respectfully offer flowers. The fragrance of incense lingered gently in the air, while the soft chanting of the monks in the background reminded me of the strength that flows from devotion and tradition.

So, I took some time to walk around the temple grounds, observing the intricate murals and statues that depict scenes from the life of the Buddha. Each element seemed to carry a story, a lesson, or a gentle reminder of compassion, mindfulness, and humility.

It also served as a form of guidance for my children. What we are meant to understand here is the impermanence of life.

Visiting the Panagoda Sri Bodhirajarama Temple offered a much-needed escape from the busyness of everyday life. Surrounded by ancient trees, golden stupas, and the heartfelt prayers of others, one could truly feel grounded in these quiet, sacred moments. I must thank my younger brother for giving me the opportunity to experience such a meaningful occasion.

As I left the temple with a peaceful heart and a mind free from worries, I felt a renewed sense of appreciation and a gentle inspiration to walk the path of compassion, patience, and gratitude.
