Soy habitante del río Orinoco y hoy quiero compartirles una experiencia de vida muy particular. La lluvia, fiel a su estilo, se presentó con fuerza, recordándonos que estamos en pleno periodo lluvioso venezolano. Salí de casa con el paraguas en el morral, listo para disfrutar de este sábado visitando y compartiendo con mis amistades en Caicara del Orinoco. Hago visitas puntuales a personas muy cercanas, esas que siento como en la palma de mi mano.

I am an inhabitant of the Orinoco River and today I want to share with you a very particular life experience. The rain, true to its style, came with force, reminding us that we are in the middle of the Venezuelan rainy season. I left the house with my umbrella in my backpack, ready to enjoy this Saturday visiting and sharing with my friends in Caicara del Orinoco. I make punctual visits to people very close to me, those I feel like I am in the palm of my hand.

Después de esta gira mañanera, llamé a mi amigo Edgar para charlar de la vida. Nos encontramos y me invitó a un compartir con sus compañeros de trabajo en las afueras de la ciudad. Nos fuimos en su motocicleta y pasamos allí unas cuatro horas. La comida: un delicioso sancocho de hueso con verduras.

After this morning tour, I called my friend Edgar to chat about life. We met and he invited me to meet his colleagues on the outskirts of the city. We went on his motorbike and spent about four hours there. The meal: a delicious sancocho de hueso with vegetables.

No puedo expresar lo tranquilo y feliz que me sentí. Disfruté de un solaz esparcimiento y pude escuchar la vibración de la naturaleza. Los niños se bañaban en dos piscinas, sus risas y gritos de placer eran especiales. Repartieron los platos repletos de ese condumio comunitario. Me sirvieron dos veces. ¿Qué más puedo pedir de este estilo de vida que me ofrece tantos beneficios?

I cannot express how calm and happy I felt. I enjoyed the solace of relaxation and could hear the vibration of nature. The children were bathing in two pools, their laughter and shouts of delight were special. They handed out the plates full of that communal condumio. What more could I ask for from this lifestyle that offers me so many benefits?

Al terminar esta faena, mi amigo me llevó de vuelta al centro de la ciudad. Le propuse que me dejara en la orilla del río Orinoco. Eran las cinco de la tarde. Nos despedimos y me dediqué a caminar para apreciar ese espacio maravilloso que no visitaba hacía dos meses. Observé el sol poniente. El horizonte estaba dominado por tonos grises, apenas regalándome unas tenues naranjas. Fue en este contexto, justo ahí, que la nostalgia se despertó con frenesí en mi alma. Caminé por otros senderos, dejándome llevar por mi espíritu a la orilla del río. Revisé el espejo de las aguas y las formas de las nubes. Me abstraje, me sumergí en mi ser y entendí que este es mi perfil de aventurero nostálgico del río.

At the end of this chore, my friend drove me back to the city centre. I suggested that he drop me off on the banks of the Orinoco River. It was five o'clock in the afternoon. We said goodbye and I took a walk to appreciate this marvellous space that I had not visited for two months. I watched the setting sun. The horizon was dominated by shades of grey, just a few faint oranges. It was in this context, right there, that nostalgia was awakened with frenzy in my soul. I walked along other paths, letting my spirit carry me to the riverbank. I looked in a mirror of the waters and the shapes of the clouds. I became abstracted, immersed in my being, and understood that this is my profile as a nostalgic adventurer of the river.
